A Day in the Life
In this role, you will support daily manufacturing operations and drive efficiency improvements in existing extrusion processes. This position will focus on delivering cost savings while ensuring full compliance with quality and regulatory requirements for components used in life‑saving medical devices.
You will apply deep technical expertise in plastics materials science and manufacturing engineering to support daily operational objectives. You will also analyze, design, and optimize extrusion processes and material applications. Working cross‑functionally with R&D, Quality, Operations, and external partners, you will help deliver robust, compliant, and scalable manufacturing solutions.
Responsibilities may include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Provide process engineering support to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
- Lead cross‑functional engineering projects to drive continuous improvement in yield, efficiency, quality, and cost, using data from systems such as OEE and SPC.
- Specify, order, install, and qualify extrusion equipment and tooling.
- Develop and implement cost‑savings initiatives related to extrusion processes and workflow improvements.
- Execute process and equipment validations, including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Process Qualification (PQ), using statistical analysis tools.
- Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions as part of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and CAPAs.
- Author and maintain technical specifications, SOPs, and related documentation through document control systems for new and existing processes, in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements, using change management PLM systems such as Agile.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to operators and technicians as needed.

Nice to Have: Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with extrusion processes (polymer/plastic or composite), preferably in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of failure analysis techniques, material characterization, and process validation.
- Familiarity with FDA, ISO, and GMP requirements.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with suppliers and contract manufacturers.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$86,400.00 - $129,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
