A Day in the Life

We are seeking an Tax Accountant with technical, compliance and audit experience and who thrives in a challenging and fast-paced workplace the desire to actively contribute to and learn from our talented and diverse group of tax professionals within the region and within the Tax Department. This role is designed to provide essential support to the APAC Corporate Tax team with exposure to APAC operations while allowing the individual to grow technical capabilities over time.
In this role, the Tax Accountant, APAC, will provide support designated countries’ income tax compliance, audits, and tax planning. Coordinate with controllers, local finance teams, and external service providers to gather required statutory and tax information. In addition, this person will support on regional projects as well as assist the M&A Tax group with APAC M&A (and joint venture) deals, APAC acquisition integrations and divestitures. This position will require delivering technical analysis on various APAC regional and global projects, researching tax related issues and work in collaboration with other persons in the Tax Department, Controllers, Finance, Treasury, Legal and business stakeholders. You will report to to the Senior Tax Manager, APAC.
Medtronic’s Tax Department consists of over 100 tax professionals and support personnel located in different locations in the U.S. and several different locations outside the U.S. This position reports into the International Tax Manager located in Singapore. As a Tax Accountant, you will support corporate income tax planning in multiple APAC jurisdictions (12 countries and increasing), work on many different types of projects and have regular interaction with business, supply chain, finance, legal and treasury as you help them understand the corporate income tax issues, monitor compliance related matters and support tax audits.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Providing support to the wider Corporate Tax team on all internal quarterly tax reporting matters (e.g. FIN 48 positions, income tax rates, withholding tax rates, tax holiday checklist, tax audit log, thin capitalization review, evaluation of valuation allowances, etc.); including analyses for the APAC region.
Support in the reviewing corporate income tax returns and payment requests for entities prepared either by local Controllers or external service providers.
•Providing support to the APAC Team on income tax queries, income tax audits and relationships with local tax authorities.
Monitoring changes in local tax legislation, rulings, regulations and litigation;
Support the APAC team on requests by APAC business partners on technical tax considerations and applicability to MDT; and
Providing implementation support for any regional or global project
Advise APAC Controllers on tax provisions and deferred income taxes;Proactively identify income tax issues and support developing tax strategies.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Accounting & Finance, Taxation, or equivalent
Minimum 3 years of international corporate income tax experience in a law firm, large corporate in-house tax department or public accounting.
Strong accounting and taxation fundamentals
Proficiency in written and spoken English language skills
Proactive and eager to learn
Energetic with an enthusiastic, detailed oriented and hands-on approach
Team player – ability to work well in a dynamic environment
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a regional team
Good Excel skills; interest in tax technology or automation is a plus
