We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our organization as we develop safety critical software for medical devices that hundreds of thousands of people around the world depend on daily. You will work with a world-class team to meet users’ needs by developing innovative solutions and bringing them to market and will directly contribute to Medtronic’s mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life.
In this role you will be working in fast-paced cross-functional teams to develop embedded software and algorithms for our glucose sensing therapies to maximize safety and minimize user burden. We’re looking for someone with knowledge in embedded software (proficiency in C, familiarity with RTOS and Embedded programming) to help us transform diabetes care around the world.
This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. This role requires you to work on-site at our Northridge, CA office at least 4 days per week. This on-site presence is vital for collaboration and maintaining strong team connections.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for firmware development. The primary role for this position is writingthe low-level embedded software interfacing witha CGM Sensor. As part of this role, you will also coordinate technical discussions and problem solving for software projects and collaborate with the platform and system architects on the impacts of design decisions. You will be a key interface between the firmware team and other software teams and functions including participating in change control and risk analysis activities as part of the software quality process.
Key Technical Competencies:
- Expert in software engineering best practices for embedded software development.
- Experience in firmware development using C/C++
- Embedded / firmware development using state machine design.
- Developing embedded systems using Bluetooth Low Energy communication protocols.
- Interpret, understand, and provide feedback on firmware requirements. Perform requirement analysis todeterminecompleteness and compliance with software/hardware systems. Ability to work with requirement management tools.
- Pursues industry best practices and technology trends. Collaborates with industry thought leaders. Recognized as the organization’s leader in applyingnew technology. Provides vision and assures the organization is an early adopter of industry innovations.

- Gather metrics on the firmware development process andproductionfirmware.
- Generatesfirmware development policies, standards, and procedures.
- Creates documentation throughout the development process
- Works with other disciplines to develop system-minded implementations thattake into accountsafety, performance, communication, userinterfaceand other aspects of a final product.
- Commits to achieving and exceeding project goals and timelines.
- Performsduties in compliance with the Quality System.
Must Have:MinimumRequirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering or Sciences fieldrequired
- 4 years of embedded systems engineering experience in product development with a bachelor’s degree, or 2+ years of embedded systems engineering experience in product development with a master’s degree.
- Embedded systems development experience
- Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy
- Master of Science degree in Computer Science, ElectricalEngineeringor related Engineering field
- Experience in medical software developmentprocesssuch as IEC 62304 or other regulated software development
- Debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with hardware and software integration tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$122,400.00 - $183,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
