The Opportunity
With a strong mission and a robust pipeline, this is an exciting time to join Diabetes. Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Architecture, Diabetes, the Vice President of Software Development will play a unique role in leading, optimizing, and supporting the continued global expansion of the Diabetes business as well as managing budgets and delivering financial results. They will also be responsible for maintaining and sustaining the Product Innovation ecosystem, enabling the business to succeed, on top of being accountable for functional excellence and talent identification and development for the Software Development function.
This leader will also modernize the technical infrastructure of the Diabetes business, making sure systems are reliable, scalable, and easy for patients and health practitioners to use as well as develop and execute the Diabetes’ OU’s digital strategy, and the application of AI to improve productivity and outcomes. Finally, this individual will be responsible for helping shift Software Development from an enabling function to a differentiating one, helping to define and drive the Diabetes OU’s digital agenda.

A Day in the Life
This VP of Software Development will have three direct reports who lead three segments: Cloud Development, Mobile Applications and Site Reliability supported by a global team of 400. This global team is comprised of 200 full-time employees and another 200 offshore.
This global, leadership position in Northridge, CA, part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. We will provide relocation support and there will be business travel requirements.
This leader is a seasoned and transformative leader and collaborative problem-solver. This individual is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who navigates ambiguity well and is a collaborative problem-solver. He/She has ability to understand the spectrum and product lifecycle to address questions and challenge thinking.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Define software testing strategies that will bring business value to our devices with a focus on but not limited to applications, mobile, web, APIs, tools, and services
Development and enhancements of applications, APIs, scripts, used in the integration or automation of metadata into production and distributions system
Designs, validates and develops new products to market.
Specifies new product functional requirement.
Develops and applies engineering standards and procedures.
Performs technical planning, device integration, verification and validation.
Evaluates alternatives through cost benefit analysis, risk assessment, and feasibility testing.
Aid in reengineering efforts related to decommissioning of legacy systems
Collaborate with Operations and Quality leaders to implement a standardized Agile Software Development; and
Provide project forecasting and predictability by working with the cross-functional leaders.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A)
Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience and 10+ years of managerial experience overseeing large scale teams.
Nice to Have: Preferred Requirements
Software development leadership experience within a regulated environment such as the wearables, medical device, consumer electronics or healthcare.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse technical and/or clinical team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
Track-record of building a deeply connected and highly engaged team by fostering belonging, enhancing teamwork and benefit from diverse skills and experience

Knowledge of the medical device/healthcare industry
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally within the company and cultivate key internal/external relationships
Excellent written and presentation skills
- Knowledge and experience of Lean and Six Sigma Methodologies
- Advanced degree or other advanced degree, with minimum 13 years prior relevant experience and minimum of 13 years of managerial experience; and/or
- Certifications or Licenses; e.g. PMP, AWS, ITIL, FRM, CFA, QAI, ISTQB, SSL, DNS, CISS.

The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
