The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Role Purpose:

IT Application Developer to engage with the internal plant customers to understand system requirements and support the IT solution to fulfill those requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, program, and support software systems in cooperation with operating departments.
  • Coordinate and implement externally developed IT systems.
  • Support a smooth production process by maintaining a high availability of IT systems.
  • Interact with customers to gather and define requirements from various perspectives, interpret business needs, and translate those into technical requirements and specifications.
  • Review and respond to documented issues and define requirements to address the issue.
  • Implement components (e.g. program, specifications, order, build, etc.) for IT solutions to support new business demands and the continuation of business.
  • Trouble-shoot applications, infrastructure problems or other IT problems.
  • On call support will be required on a rotational basis.

Performance Metrics:

  • Meeting technical specification requirements in assigned areas and the contributions made to ensure the overall success of assigned tasks.
  • Demonstration of innovative technical approaches to improve a process or technology.

Required Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA Degree in Computer Science with emphasis on Programming
  • Familiar with and willing to learn SSRS, T-SQL, and .NET applications
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills


  • Some exposure to programming manufacturing IT systems
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn other IT applications such as MS Office Suite, OPC, PI, GE Prophecy, PI-Admin, Factory Talk, SSIS, SSRS, and RSLinx
  • Certifications or training in technical areas
