Lane County Public Health, Emergency Management Public Health: INTERNSHIP

Lane County is currently recruiting an INTERN for the Community Health Centers Division of Health & Human Services

In alignment with Lane County's Strategic Plan, and to improve recruitment, selection, retention, and advancement of underrepresented groups in Lane County, the following internship will be offered to Lane County residents, undergraduate, and graduate students with particular emphasis on providing pathways for historically underrepresented individuals to professional careers at Lane County. Historically underrepresented groups may include, but are not limited to: first generation college students, low-income students, students who identify as LGBTQ+, students of color, veterans, and students with disabilities.

About the Internship
The Community Health Centers of Lane County are 6 Federally Qualified Health Centers within 15 minutes of each other that provide care to the county's most vulnerable population. Over 60% of our patients have Medicaid, the rest Medicare or are uninsured. Many of the patients referred to clinical pharmacy services have type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, opioid use disorder, opioid dependence, hepatitis C, as well as polypharmacy.

Objectives:
  • Expose student intern ambulatory care clinical pharmacy practice
  • Expose student intern to the roles and responsibilities of clinical serving on an interprofessional healthcare team
  • Provide the student intern with experience in the operational aspects surrounding the optimization of medication access in a federally qualified health center
  • Provide student intern with opportunities to review and improve policies and procedures which aim to serve the ambulatory care specialty pharmacy patient population
  • Enhance the student intern's didactic and clinical training
Schedule: Hours will vary by week depending on program needs: 10 hours a week, between hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Saturday.

*This position is budgeted for a maximum of 520 hours*

Requirements:
  • Licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy through the State of Oregon
  • Currently enrolled as a Pharmacy School student in good standing at an accredited School of Pharmacy.


Job Requirements:
Duties may include:
Help clinical pharmacist complete and manage projects and programs Medication reconciliation and patient counseling, active learning, literature reviews, and ownership and completion of patient related and/or quality improvement projects in collaboration clinical pharmacist. Interns will also have the opportunity to practice good communication skills through patient interactions as well as discussions and presentations with health care professionals and other learners.

Knowledge of:

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Modern principles and practices of analyzing data; administration concepts and theories; research methods. A strong candidate for this position would have good communication skills, written and verbal, as well as an interest or experience in public speaking. Ability to: Use computers and MS Word, understand and carry out oral and written directions; analyze a variety of information and concisely summarize it.
