International Intern - Cell Culture

The duration of this internship is 12 months, June 2018 through June 2019.  The internship is in the Expression Technology (ET) group of Biological Development in Berkeley, California.  ET is a development group involved in making/testing expression vectors, creating mammalian production cell lines, performing media development and establishing cell banks.  It is also involved in the development of technology involved in these processes.  The position will involve cell line development activities such as culture, transfection, selection and adaptation of mammalian cell lines.  In general this involves monitoring cells microscopically, measuring vital parameters and expression levels of transgene(s), and cultivating cells as needed.  The candidate will be maintaining multiple cultures simultaneously, entering data into electronic notebooks, and observing trends. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is strongly desired.  Candidate must have basic lab skills (pipetting, simple calculations, sterile technique) and understand theoretical and practical paths from plasmid creation through transfection/selection to cellular expression of a foreign protein.  In addition, analytical techniques such as nucleic acid purification, PCR, and gel electrophoresis will be performed by this candidate.
