The summer internship program provides current college/graduate students the opportunity to work on meaningful, project-based assignments in various non-clinical areas. Intern responsibilities may include project management, event planning/support, logistics, data base management, research and analysis. Students typically work full time during the summer program, which runs from mid May to early August.


The Quality Intern will be responsible for supporting process improvement tasks by partnering closely with Quality leaders, Process Improvement Specialists, Clinical Data Specialists, and the Clinical Effectiveness (Guideline Development team) to assist in our “Advancing One is Not Zero: Journey to Zero Serious Safety Events”.


College student worrking toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Healthcare, Business or related field; graduate program preferred

  • Demonstrated statistical analysis skills (clinical, operational, customer service, financial)
  • Strong writing, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Suite required. Access  preferred



  • Workflow Management/ Redesign:
    • Review operational processes (both clinical and Quality department) and provide input to solution design
    • Shadow and observe clinical staff in support of assigned projects
    • Provide current and future workflow and value-stream maps to help identify wastes, potential errors, or inefficiencies
  • Data Collection Optimization:
    • Assist teams with current data collection methods
    • Conduct statistical analyses to support teams
    • Provide support for:
      • SharePoint design
      • survey design and deployment
      • requirements documentation
      • data validation
  • Lean Training/Workshops:
    • Participate in the coordination and delivery of Lean Six Sigma education
    • Participate in the coordination and facilitation of rapid process improvement workshops


Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.


Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
