Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, makes pharmaceutical therapies available for patients through preparation, repackaging, and distribution of drugs and drug-like products. Demonstrates the ability to support pharmacists in delivering patient care. Possesses understanding and experience within a variety of pharmacy work environments. Demonstrates exceptional time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Provides leadership in work areas and assigned projects.


Exercises management responsibilities through problem-solving and collaboration, independently and as delegated by supervising pharmacist or preceptor. Provides excellent customer care by helping to maintain an organized and efficient workflow in the pharmacy.Definition:Any person who is registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy under the internship program of the Board to acquire pharmacy experience or enrolled in approved academic internship programs. A pharmacy intern working under a pharmacist preceptor or supervising pharmacist may, while under supervision, perform all acts constituting the practice of pharmacy. NCBOP Rules 21 NCAC 46 .1317 (29)

Required Education: Actively enrolled in an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree

Required License: Enrolled in a school of pharmacy with intent to register as a pharmacyintern with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy as evidenced by an initiated North Carolina Practical Pharmacy Experience Affidavit on file with the Mission facility with the start date and assigned pharmacist preceptor. Experience to be updated quarterly.

Required Experience: None

Preferred Experience: 2 or more years of pharmacy experience.' Working Conditions: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds ' Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time ' Ability to walk long distances for drug delivery' Positions self to stock medications and supplies, which requires bending, reaching, stooping, and twisting ' Pushes or pulls carts with medications and supplies up to 50 pounds ' Operates a computer, calculator, and printer, and other automation machinery such as medication storage or dispensing devices.' Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time ' Manipulate drug packing to prepare medications for patient use (example: fill pill bottles, make IV medications) ' Frequent communication with other caregivers or patients regarding medications. Must be able to exchange information and know when to transfer questions to pharmacist.' Ability to tolerate smell of cleaning products in drug preparation areas (e.g., bleach) ' Repetitive tasks ' Ability to climb stairsOSHA Category: Potential for exposure to blood or body fluids and hazardous medication and/or chemicals.
