Scope of Position

In this position you develop and document standardized methods and procedures for measurement systems as well as support on-going process improvement projects through measurement software upgrades. Working with our Division Engineering group you have the opportunity to develop new and upgrade existing measurement systems and participate in project teams to introduce new measurements technology. As our mechanical engineer in this role you are the plant level manufacturing support point of contact for installed measurement equipment systems.

The responsibilities include participation in the design, building, testing and extension of various measurement and controls systems in our complex. You also develop and execute Measurement Systems Analysis and R&R studies as well as work with manufacturing, engineering, development and information technology groups to bring standard measurements and controls systems methods, as well as data storage and presentation. You support technology transfers from development to production while providing progress reports to key partners and organizational leadership. We look to you to actively engage with key manufacturing and development activities to canvass/identify measurement develop needs that provide enhanced product attributes, cost reductions, or other market advantages.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • We require a B.S. in Mechanical / Electrical Engineer, Computer Science or other similar field of study. We desire a MS in these fields.
  • You should have at least 2+ years measurements experience
  • We are looking for a strong knowledge of measurements, instrumentation, controls technologies, and mechanical aptitude.
  • You possess a base knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • You know inspection tools and can bench mark different plant measurement tools against one another in addition to having an in-depth knowledge of why the tools are different.
  • We need you to understand PC / Software structured code (, C++,C#) to help identify bugs and refine production applications
  • You should be able to model in Solidworks

Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for you to possess)

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Know sensors, instrumentation, lasers and signal processing; and hands-on electrical installation
  • Possess good process, systems and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong mathematical background including calculus, matrix math and geometry.
  • Understand how data is stored in either XML files and/or databases. We need this to help guide what data is extracted and the preference on how it is stored.
  • Basic understanding of optics, lens and lighting and experience in Optical Measurements, digital imaging and systems analysis
  • Learn and help supply suggestions for error proofing within the software and provide linkage between PC and PLC interface.
  • Understand PLCs, RSLogix, monitor tags and/or digital i/o’s
  • Project management and leadership skills.
  • Vision processing tools such as Wit, Cognex, Halcon, etc.
  • Work with TS-16949 quality standards
