Description
*Vital Care Pharmacy *is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to perform compounding and any other tasks that relate to the dispensing of infusion therapy. Duties may include ensuring the overall quality of medication and infusion preparation for agents administered and compliance with USP-800 guidelines for the handling of hazardous drugs.
The Infusion Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing friendly, prompt, and efficient customer service. This role also assists pharmacists in providing medication and other health care products to patients.
*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *
* Greet patients, customers, and visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor
* Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability
* Perform sanitation, maintenance, and tracking of infusion equipment and the IV room
* Perform infusion compounding activities
* Mix and compound IV medications from a Flow Hood and/or glove box
* Compound medications using proper aseptic technique
* Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications
* Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials following OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
* Perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate drug measurements for compounding of ordered medications
* Plan, implement or maintain procedures for missing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal
* Conduct routine medication inventories including monitoring for expired drugs and assist with inventory control of medications in the infusion room, and storage room
* Assist in ordering supplies and medication. Receive and restock medications
* Maintain any necessary QA logs, including (but not limited to) cleaning logs, temperature logs, waste logs, expired and destroyed medication logs and others
* Adhere to all state and federal pharmacy regulations including HIPAA
* Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed
* Other duties as necessary
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: *
* Knowledge of prescriptions, medications, and pharmacy procedures/best practices
* Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronics Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
* Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing
* Skill in managing multiple priorities
* Ability to convey professional demeanor when engaging with patients, protecting privacy, and confidentiality
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Knowledge of IV medications and supplies
*EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: *
* High school diploma or GED required
* Current State of Nebraska Pharmacy Technician Registration, in good standing along with proof of completion of a board approved state or national pharmacy technician certification program.
* If candidate is not currently registered as a technician, they must obtain registration through the state of Nebraska prior to starting as a technician.
* Once candidate becomes newly registered as a technician with the state, the candidate MUST show completion a certification exam through a board approved state or national pharmacy technician certification program within one year from aforementioned registration date.
* One year of experience as an infusion pharmacy technician in a licensed pharmacy preferred
* Experience in a healthcare field or previous IV Pharmacy experience preferred
