PeaceHealth is seeking a HIM Specialist - Health Information Management (Per Diem) for a per diem, Variable shift position.

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing functions that support health information management and document imaging in hybrid environments (electronic and hard copy).  Functions include storage, retrieval and delivery of health records; prepping, scanning and quality control; and general clerical support to the department.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Gather, process, maintain and disclose health information to customers (public, hospital, clinic, and medical staff) in accordance with established policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
2. Gather records from units and assemble records into standard order.
3. Retrieve and re-file archival records as needed.
4. Perform computer data entry and retrieval as required.
5. Prepare documents for scanning, scan documents into software systems, and index documents accurately in electronic folders.
6. Review scanned documents in the EMR for quality (image, rotation, and document type) and correct error and omissions.
7. May also be responsible for other general clerical/reception tasks.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION: 
Coursework in Medical Terminology preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: 
• Minimum of one year general office experience required; health records experience in hospital or healthcare setting preferred.

 

OTHER SKILLS: 
• Understands the basics of authorization to release information.
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills including MS Office applications
• Proficiency in numeric filing, speed and accuracy necessary.
• Demonstrates good judgment and decision making skills.
• Strong organizational skills
• Multi-task/detail oriented
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Honor and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
