Through our partnership with the National Institutes of Health, Kelly Government Solutions offers administrative, IT, engineering, scientific, and healthcare professionals the opportunity to work with the leading medical research center in the world. We are seeking an individual to work as a Health and Science Writer at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
(1) Provide strategic communications support to the content team lead in National Heart, Lung, and Blood (NHLBI) Office of Science Policy, Engagement, Education, and Communications, Health Education and Digital Information and Dissemination Branch
(2) Develop and implement strategies to communicate heart, lung, blood, and sleep messages to NHLBI stakeholders, including researchers, health professionals, advocates, and the public.
(3) Translate complex scientific and medical information into plain language; tailor and promote information for a variety of audiences and channels.
(4) Identify needs and develop content for various communication media to increase visibility of the program.
(5) Assist Team Lead in content strategy development and implementation including development and dissemination of SOPs and tip sheets.
(6) Coordinate with other program offices to create outreach and engagement plans.
(7) Work closely with branch and office colleagues to coordinate efforts on content development, messaging, and edits related to health education, health topics, and other content as needed across NHLBI sites
(8) Collaborate with NHLBI divisions, offices, and centers to ensure that digital content is accurate and up to date; facilitate new content requests.
(9) Collaborate with external contractors to facilitate writing and editing projects, promote SEO best practices, and provide relevant recommendations
(10) Meet with internal and external stakeholders to identify communications gaps and collaboration opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor ideally would have:
(1) Bachelor's degree in Communications, Mass Media, or related discipline
(2) Understanding of and expertise in web content development and associated best practices.
(3) Knowledge and understanding of the field of health and science communications and best practices to ensure content is accessible to a variety of audiences
(4) Experience with copyediting and plain language writing
(5) Experience with communications project management and planning
