Graphics Management Design Lead 




The primary responsibilities of this role, Graphics Management Design Lead, are to: 


  • Lead the graphic design process by making decisions and recommendations on design objectives and graphics strategies for creative and final print packaging and evaluate and recommend the most suitable design resource and actively participate in each creative phase regarding design direction and design compliance to brand objectives and offer innovative design concepts and printing technologies to our internal stakeholders for consideration to strengthen brand presence on shelf;
  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with creative firms to ensure high level of design talent and appropriate price levels (high, mid, adaptive);
  • Develop graphics budget estimates for inclusion into annual Brand plan financials and develop project cost estimates, negotiate pricing, and monitor expenditures on a per project basis. Recommend potential cost savings options;
  • Supervise the preparation and submission of proposed labeling through the Change Control Process for review and approval, oversee and coordinate the creation of final mechanical artwork to be in compliance with approved Change Control documentation as well as for graphics and packaging specifications to ensure printability, and effectively execute final printed packaging by managing pre-press procedures including technical review and approval of printing films, attendance at initial press runs and issuance of color standards for production consistency;
  • Identify, assess, and communicate graphics related risks associated with project timelines throughout the project and execute new projects with an acceptable ‘Right the First Time’ rate for tasks / deliverables for Graphics Management;
  • Continuously identify and implement process improvements and assist in the updating of graphics process specific SOP's and procedures and provide training to new peers within Packaging Services, Marketing, Project Management or others on the artwork development and approval process;
  • Initiate new artwork projects (workflow) in GEARS/BLUE, conduct audits of assigned projects to ensure control, compliance and integrity of the Graphics Development processes including providing a resource of artwork archives for various outside departments consisting of electronic and digital files, font libraries, colors and illustrations;
  • Support Business Development team as needed with the design and development of brand and packaging architecture, including structural and point-of-purchase ideas for new business opportunities, provide direction and input to packaging research moderator as needed. Incorporate learnings into design direction and provide feedback to agency partners, and provide Design Firm oversight as needed;
  • Be capable of making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively meet customer needs (on time, at or below cost, and of an acceptable quality level);
  • Be capable of quickly distinguish between what is relevant and what is unimportant to ensure that all stakeholders needs are met;
  • Work independently and manage multiple (25-100) concurrent projects of varying complexity across multiple brands and be responsible for cost, quality, and timely delivery of artwork.

Required Qualifications:


  • A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of ten years of packaging (Design/Development and/or Graphics) experience OR A Master’s Degree with a minimum of six years of package development (Design/Development and/or Graphics) experience OR A Ph.D. with a minimum of four years’ packaging (Design/Development and/or Graphics) experience;
  • Proven results with building strong customer relationships, anticipating customer needs, and delivering customer-centric solutions;
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals;
  • Ability to build partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives;
  • Recognizes the value of and is able to apply diverse experiences, styles, and perspectives to achieve results;
  • Ensures accountability and consistently achieves results;
  • Ability to makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes conflicting information to effectively solve problems;
  • High degree of computer literacy;
  • Comprehensive understanding of package printing processes;
  • Functional knowledge of cGMP's, industry regulations, and understanding of package development and printing processes as it pertains to the Pharmaceutical and Over-the-counter (OTC) drug business;
  • Broad cross-functional knowledge of the roles of Marketing, Sales, Consumer Promotions, Regulatory, Law & Patent, Medical, Drug Safety, QA, and Product Supply functions;
  • Ability to manage artwork for 100 – 200 SKUs based upon brand assignments.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • A degree in Graphic Design.
