Global Process and System Steward – Global Medical Affairs Operations, Process & Systems Assurance


This role will reportinto Director, Global Process & Systems Assurance.  The primary responsibility of this rolewill be to support the design and execution of GMA global processes thatpromote operational efficiencies and process improvements.  This will include partnering with businessstakeholders and other functions in GMAO, including the Program ManagementOffice (PMO), Merck IT and external vendor partners to design and documenteffective global business process and business requirements, partner with ITto translate into system requirements. Additionally this role is responsibleto work with PMO in developing all implementation plans for global rolloutincluding: User Acceptance Testing design and documentation, overseeingtesting of all functional requirements and validating results.  Collaborating with the Process DesignManager, document and test all reporting requirements, working with IT or thevendor to ensure business and operational reporting is in place. 

A critical componentof this role will be to partner with PMO in leading the implementation ofcross-functional global process improvement projects designed and developedby GMA Operations to support GMA business objectives.  Will partner with internal stakeholders inidentifying and executing on training and communications needs. Through theseresponsibilities, this role will also have the opportunity to identifyopportunities for additional process improvements and potential Phased systemdevelopment.

This individual willbe accountable for overall global system and process oversight, ensuring thatprocesses and metadata are consistently defined and deployed across allcolleagues in medical affairs – for all Therapeutic Areas. 

This role will partnerclosely with the GMAO Program Management Office (PMO) as well as otherswithin the Process & Systems Assurance team.

The role will manageparticipate in multiple process and systems improvement projects concurrentlyin the fast-paced and dynamic environment of Global Medical AffairsOperations.

This role will needto successfully partner within GMA and across business functions to makeeffective business process decisions; solving complex problems with efficientsolutions and escalating risks and issues as appropriate. 

The successfulcandidate for this role will bring experience in partnering with BusinessFunctions, leading workshops with global stakeholders, effectivelyquestioning and leading  global processdesign and execution, effective cross-functional collaboration, attention todetail, communication and the ability to work independently, escalating risksand issues as appropriate. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated successdealing in this type of fast-paced environment, with the ability to learn onthe fly while understanding and solving new problems.  It will require a high level of independentjudgement and initiative.

Key Responsibilitiesinclude:

  • Understanding the business process and objectives to enableconfiguration decisions
  • Engage cross-functionally across the organization to developtest and implementation plans, drive results and resolve issues, usingan ability to assess and course correct when necessary
  • Serving as the Process & System Steward for multipleprocesses and systems leveraged by GMA. 
  • Communicate and influence at all levels of the organization,strength in Leading Without Authority is a must
  • Implement processes utilizing improvement methodologies such asSix Sigma and/or Lean
  • Ensure efforts and priorities align to overall GMA StrategicInitiatives while focusing on efficient, effective process execution
  • Identify opportunities for global process improvement throughroot cause analysis, problem solving and prioritize through thedevelopment of a business case
  • Monitors and evaluates process changes to ensurebenefits/objectives are being met and are measurable.
  • Interfacing with Merck IT and/or external vendors to facilitatesystem configuration based on documented Business and FunctionalRequirement Specifications
  • Develop Best Practices, and an implementation framework that isscalable and sustainable and can be applied to global process creationand transformation
Skills Required:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to technical andnon-technical audiences of various levels within the organization
  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to manage/influencewithout authority
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally  and with global stakeholders toachieve business objectives
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, problem-solving,interpersonal, and time management skills
  • 2+ yrs experience in partnering with Business stakeholders todesign and execute  globalprocesses in systems
  • Expert level usage of tools such as MS PowerPoint, MSExcel,  MS Word and Visio


Education : 
  • BA/BS.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels within the organization
  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to manage/influence without authority
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and with global stakeholders to achieve business objectives
