Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.



This position is an engineering technician role supporting the CDT Forming Process Group based in the Harrodsburg, KY manufacturing facility.  Candidate would apply basic engineering, scientific and computational methods to support new technology deployments, trials, and process optimization projects.  Furthermore, responsibilities include maintenance & auditing of group databases, SharePoint sites, and document libraries.



  • Support engineering teams with data collection and maintenance of process and equipment databases
  • Data collection and measurement of critical process variables (Sheet temperatures, air flow measurements, etc.)
  • Support engineering teams with regular statistical analysis, collection, preparation, and presentation of critical process data
  • Lead sample collection, measurement coordination, and sample shipping in support of experiments & developments on the plant floor
  • Contributor to major process experiments & developments (provide shift coverage as needed, process measurements, data & sample collection, etc.) on the plant floor
  • Prepares, leads and executes process and equipment trials/experiments of low-to-moderate complexity and scope
  • Responsible for auditing & managing world-wide document library and executing all process document changes. Issues world-wide sharing alerts as appropriate
  • Responsible for maintaining group Sharepoint sites and document libraries
  • Responsible for all documentation workspaces and administration activities
  • Occasionally support transfer of technology to world-wide manufacturing facilities in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China. Also occasional support for activities in Corning, NY
  • Support engineering organizations with root cause analysis and problem solving through data collection, analysis and statistical methods
  • Support plant in maintenance of FDM equipment (rolls systems, measurements equipment, etc..) and documentation of best practices/procedures


Role within group:

  • Individual contributor on projects, along with managing small projects & experiments
  • Engineering technician position to support forming technology and process projects
  • Includes startup of equipment and developing setup to deliver required quality attributes
  • Support documentation of status and issues and developing plan to resolve issues
  • Interface with design and equipment rebuild engineering groups as well as plant and Development forming organizations


Projects involved with: 

  • Transfer and migration of new technology; platforms, process setups, best practices and troubleshooting guides to Manufacturing including Taiwan, China, Korea and Japan
  • Fusion Forming attribute & process improvement programs.
  • New Glass compositions and/or new product developments
  • Cost reduction targeting increased asset utilization and decreased capital requirements.


Working Hours:  Typical working hours are M-F 8AM to 5PM.  However, can include weekend and/or off-shift/holiday work depending on manufacturing or project priority


Travel Requirements: Up to 0-10% domestic and international

Required Education:

Associates Degree in Technology Field (Engineering, Science, Math)


Required Skills:

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with engineering fundamentals and measurements (Temperature, Pressure, etc..)
  • Understanding of Scientific Method
  • Time Management & ability to Multi-Task. Able to respond quickly and effectively to short-term issues while continuing to move forward on the long-term programs.
  • Flexibility to working after hours, weekends, holidays, etc.


Desired Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: able to work effectively in a diverse environment
  • Statistical techniques and data analysis
  • Previous manufacturing, process engineering, or glass production experience
  • Functional understanding of CAD Tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and/or Database Systems (SQL, Microsoft Access)
