Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

Process technician within the CET Product and Process Development group involved with transferring new products to manufacturing and manufacturing improvement projects. Typical projects for team involve new product production trials, process optimization, cost reduction initiatives, capacity increases, variability reduction and quality improvement. Technician role requires interaction with Development, Engineering and Manufacturing personnel to achieve objectives, data collection/mining, preliminary data analysis and general experimental support.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Shift coverage during experiments in plant
  • Ware tracking
  • Using Excel and Jmp for data analysis
  • Involvement with design of experiments
  • Experiment logistics and experiment execution
  • Mining plant systems for data, organizing and analyzing the data
  • Propose next steps based on the experiment data analysis

Travel Requirements:

Anticipate all work being in the Corning Valley. However, PPD does support plants worldwide, so occasional travel may be required (< 25% travel).

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

Generally 40 hrs per week, but must be flexible. There will be times where off shift and weekend hours are required in order to support experimentation and implementation of projects.

Required Education and Years of Experience:

  • Minimum 2 year Associate Degree in a technical field
  • 3-5 years’ experience technical/manufacturing

Required Skills:

  • Technically curious, self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision • Process engineering technician experience
  • Strong Organization skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities at once.
  • Strong logistical skills
  • Ability to monitor and execute designed experiments
  • Some equipment / process aptitude with ability to troubleshoot and characterize key process drivers.
  • Able to work with data and communicate results from data.
  • Able to give direction to others (leadership skills)

Desired Skills:

  • Prior ceramic substrate/filter manufacturing experience
  • Manufacturing plant experience - successful applicant needs to be able to interact with operators and key receivers.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to interact with all levels within the organization (good people skills)
  • Knowledge of the current ceramic substrate/filter manufacturing process would be a plus
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Team player
  • Flexibility
