Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


  • Performs a variety of administrative functions in support of the sales forecasting and demand management roles.
  • Following established procedures, collects forecast inputs from regional contacts and consolidates into one WW forecast. As part of consolidation, analyzes inputs and makes recommendations for changes based on historical trends, market changes, or other related factors.
  • Routinely responds to ad-hoc questions/clarification requests regarding the forecast by multiple contacts.
  • Preparation of PowerPoint presentation used in Short Term Forecast meetings, including the updating of links and formulas for the supporting excel files, confirming high level data for accuracy, developing comments based on changes and drivers, collecting and pasting in regional comments, and inclusion of other slides as needed given changes
  • Maintains all STF spreadsheets including any changes in the format needed due to implementation of new products, new source locations, new customers and/or each new year’s requirements. During times of shortage, performs additional analysis and makes recommendations regarding the need for sourced fiber, reduced factory experiment time, or other such demand limiting/supply increase actions.
  • Support the commercial operations group through participation as a functional representative for product and project teams.
  • Primarily internal company contacts and inter-organizational contacts


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Active user of Short-term forecast process that meets commercial, financial and manufacturing planning requirements.
  • Active user of STF process files which are primarily Excel. Excel processes include formula writing, data linking, pivot tables, and macros. Moderate to advanced Excel skills are necessary in this role. Work includes variance analysis, trend analysis, review of major drivers for change, supply/demand impact analysis, etc.
  • Includes collection, consolidation, and analysis of forecast inputs resulting in issuance of monthly ST Forecasts as well as issuance of Cables specific and regional specific short term forecast subset summaries as well as upsides/downsides summaries
  • Participates in Short Term Forecast meetings.
  • Consolidates forecast inputs as needed for Green Book and Black Book processes
  • Preparation of weekly expected sales report.
  • Create presentation updates for use by executive management as part of monthly commercial council meetings, quarterly Business Planning Meetings, periodic operations committee meetings, periodic Cables/COF executive and working level meetings, and other ad hoc meeting requirements.
  • Develop and issue metrics reports such as volume tracking metrics for Goal Sharing, STP, and budget volume objective purposes.


Projects involved with:

  • Collect, consolidate, revise, track, and report forecast volume changes at specific customers, specific regions, as well as WW
  • Lead the development and the implementation of forecast tracking requirement changes associated with new product implementations
  • Serve on various new product teams as the representative of the commercial operations and/or forecasting department.


Travel Requirements: Limited



  • Bachelor’s Degree Required – Finance or Analytics degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of commercial or financial analysis experience
  • Moderate to Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel required.
  • Word and PowerPoint software packages experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, ability to work with large data sets, and an ability to identify relevant trends.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with several functional areas and with various regional international offices.
  • Proven experience in providing solutions to solve complex  and data driven problems.



  • Knowledge of optical fiber, manufacturing, and measurements.
  • Commercial experience within the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience working in or with manufacturing personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to successful completion.

  • Comfortable working with all levels of management both internally and externally, and with different regions and functions.
  • Self-starter. Ability to take the initiative to ensure business objectives are met with minimum direction.
  • Organized and Detail oriented. Must be able to collect and process large amounts of information on a daily basis across a wide area of commercial issues/opportunities.
