Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

The intern will modify/enhance or develop optical & mechanical test systems and associated software (primarily Lab View based) for evaluation of fiber optic cable & connectivity products. Conduct testing and associated data analysis.



  • Design, build and automate optical systems
  • Develop and implement Labview software for measurement systems
  • Develop tools for data analysis
  • Document test methodologies and test results
  • Develop and implement methodologies to optimize measurement performance


Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm


Education and Experience

  • Completed Junior year of Bachelor Science degree or current Master’s degree student
  • Preferred majors include: Electrical Engineering, Optics, Mathematics or Physics
  • Completion of at least two courses in Optics or Fiber Optics highly preferred

Desired Skills

  • Optical metrology, preferably in fiber optics
  • Experience in Labview programming
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
