Job Summary

The Family Services Specialist provides professional services to CHOP Network staff, patients and families, which facilitates the integration of distinct patient and family population needs to ensure the ideal patient and family experience can occur.  These core services include assessing patient’s and families’ needs in support of healthy gender and sexuality development; assessing training processes to address these needs; develop/ implement training and staff consultation to increase best practices throughout the network, and evaluate training based on quality metrics.  The Family Care Specialist will collaborate with many disciplines, programs, departments and organizations in the accomplishment of these duties.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Provides skilled assessment of  patient’s and families’ needs in support of healthy gender and sexuality development, assessing training processes to address these needs, develop/ implement training and staff consultation to increase best practices throughout the network and evaluate training based on quality metrics.   Evaluates the effectiveness of professional services and adjusts/redefines goals and modalities as indicated.
  2. Shares information re: patient/family situation internally and externally as appropriate in accordance with applicable confidentiality guidelines and relevant law.  Adheres to medical-legal reporting requirements.
  3. Organizes workload and sets priorities based on identified training and consultation needs
  4. Completes documentation in a timely manner that is legible, clear and organized according to department, hospital and legal standards.
  5. Provides leadership in identifying barriers to effective service delivery or problems in work assignments.  Actively contributes in initiatives that improve service delivery through department, hospital or community based committees.
  6. Recognizes professional strengths and areas for growth and is accountable for development and enhancement of professional practice skills
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Licensed Mental Health Provider (LAC, LCPC, CSW, LSW) in NJ
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Master’s Degree 

 

Required Experience: At least two (2) experience working with Transgender and Gender Expansive children, youth and their families.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience: Experience in a hospital, health organization or mental health care agency. Experience collaborating with medical, legal, social and school systems.  Experience conducting trainings on topics around supporting Transgender and Gender Expansive children, youth and their parents.

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Knowledgeable in principles of Family-Centered Care and their applications to pediatric populations
  • Skilled in the use of personal experience to provide leadership and education for the Family-Centered Care Program and demonstrates sensitivity and empathy for the experiences of other families
  • Ability to synthesize new information/understand new areas of priorities for CHOP and propose approaches to advance the family/professional partnership model.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential materials and matters.
  • Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of computers, word processing, E-mail, and ability to integrate new technology as needed
  • Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner
  • Works collaboratively and in a positive manner with others
  • Performs work according to CHOP policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws
