Reporting to the Director, IFM Governance & Contract Management, the Facility Services EHS Lead is responsible for Collaborating with external Partners, Merck EHS professionals and site facility personal to ensure partner EHS programs are aligned compliant and consistent with Merck expectations.
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating and building relationships with Environmental Health Safety(EHS)  professionals in Merck and Partner organizations and site operations.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Merck EHS standards; provide guidance to partners regarding adherence to the standards.
  • Manages organizational change and scope transfer to ensure responsibilities are effectively transferred and compliance is sustained.
  • Complete audits and site visits as required for monitoring, identifying emerging issues and ensuring sustained compliance across IFM sites.
  • Oversight and review of Partner EHS programs ensuring alignment with Merck EHS standards and expectations.
  • Oversight and review of Partner Audit schedules, reports, findings and responses ensuring true root cause is established and sustainable solutions are implemented compliant with Merck Safety standards and expectations.
  • Mentoring and coaching partner EHS professionals on Merck EHS standards and expectations.
  • Understanding and oversight of Compliance Calendar (inspection & agency requirements) serving as next-level approver. Insure IFM provider has established a robust process to manage and execute against same.
  • When incidents occur, investigates these with local teams to determine the root cause/causes.
  • Collaborate with Merck and Partner EHS professionals to lead and run dedicated EHS Governance Meetings, aligned with overall partner Governance process.
  • Complete EHS performance reviews and works with Partners, Merck EHS professionals and sites to develop Improvement plans to address specific and general EHS improvement opportunities.
  • Co-ordination of arbitration and resolution activities for EHS escalations from sites and partners.
  • Identifying and reporting trends across sites and partners and taking action to address these.
  • Sharing learning's and best practices across partners globally.
  • Build relationship and Collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Collaborating and building links with peers and leaders internally and externally to benchmark and identify leading and best practices for to drive EHS performance in IFM.
  • Developing and Maintaining core business processes such as internal Practices, Procedures, Guides and Standards.
  • Participation in professional/technical organizations.
  • Development and delivery of EHS compliance training as required. 
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree required. (Engineering, Safety or applicable science Discipline) 
  • A minimum of seven (7) years environmental safety and facilities operations experience.
  • Able to travel 50%

Compliance & ethics:

  • Prior experience with Engineering Design, Equipment Operation, Vendor Interface, Risk Assessment, Regulations, Contractor Safety, and Guidance Development is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with strong influencing and negotiation skills. Client relationship management/networking & Business partnering Skills.

Communication skills - Influencing, Mentorship, & Advocacy:

  • Experience of managing maintenance, utility or production operations desirable.
  • Experience of applying LSS tools and techniques to drive efficiency and resolve problems desirable. Critical thinking & root cause analysis & corrective action/preventive action (CAPA).
  • Experience of co-ordinating programs across operating units and Business analytics and Reporting.
  • Experience of working in a matrix organization and managing direct and dotted line report.
  • High degree of integrity and personal ethics required representing Merck externally.
  • Resilient and focused, able to manage competing priorities.
  • Effective team player with collaborative focus.
  • Fluent in English.
  • A Strategic thinker and self-starter with demonstrated history of leading change and FM strategic site planning.
