The ERP Solution Architect will be responsible for defining, designing, proposing and implementation oversight of solutions for key Merck business processes including and spanning those that support Manufacturing, Procurement, Finance and Order to Cash. This role is responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategies, working primarily with business process and data stewards and technical specialists across functional disciplines. The ERP Solution Architect may participate in the development of the SAP ecosystem and understands the impact and needs of the applications. Supports the application and technical specialists in the multi-system application architecture and has a thorough understanding of available technology, tools and existing designs for the applications involved and the impact upon each other.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
  • Leads teams consisting of other functional groups within the Merck ERP, other internal IT groups and key technology solution partners to design and implement specific solutions to Merck’s most challenging and high visibility business requirements, which may be driven by changes to business models, mergers and acquisitions, and availability of new technologies.
  • Provides strategic consultancy support to clients, Senior Application Technical Specialists and other technical team members in all aspects of enabling technologies to meet business needs.
  • Provides expertise on application architecture design or improvement in the areas of SAP.
  • Should have cross functional business scenario experience involving at least 3 of the following SAP functional areas MM, PP, QM, SCM, APO, Procurement, and Finance processes.
  • Ensure developed documentation is appropriate and includes the end-to-end business process/application/technology landscape.
  • Collaborates with hardware, network and database architects to research new technologies where appropriate and facilitates the introduction of new technologies and process improvements.
  • Communicates and educates the technical and business communities on current architectures and technologies and industry trends.
  • Performs technical oversight of implementation projects to assure alignment with architecture and technology standards.
  • Collaborates with the Process Stewards, Delivery Leads and Project managers in solution design and implementation.
  • Works closely with SAP and other software vendors ensuring strategic and architectural fit, and ability of product to scale in order to meet Merck & Co. requirements.
Qualifications

Education:

  • BS/BA
Required:
  • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical industry and validated software environments.
  • Experience in Global SAP implementations / rollouts in a project planning and management capacity.
  • Proven ability to effectively build, lead and manage team in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining strong working relationships

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of project planning, management, and control methods and tools (MS-Project).
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant SAP functional experience including 3+ years as solution architect.
  • Technical leadership experience in architecting and working with ABAP and Middleware developers.
  • Ability to relate technical ideas and functionality to non-technical users.
  • Ability to create and meet timelines cognizant of business needs and constraints.
  • Highly self-motivated, driven work ethic, keen attention to detail and exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to perform complex system analysis and draw conclusions by relating information from different sources, including root-cause analysis and issue resolution.
