Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

Intern will assist with environmental, health and safety duties at the Diesel Manufacturing Facility. Intern will work directly with the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Department to plan and conduct activities designed to support the site’s EHS programs, improve the site’s Environmental Management System, and deliver on EHS performance targets. Key projects will be discussed and agreed upon at the start of the internship, but will generally include improving plant compliance with environmental control equipment operations and maintenance in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications. Intern may conduct and/or participate in EHS audits to identify program gaps, non-conformances and to assess and reduce environmental, health and safety risks.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Interface with EHS and other manufacturing support groups on a daily basis.
  • With guidance from EHS, lead the agreed upon projects that will enable the facility to meet its goals and objectives for the duration of the internship.
  • Evaluate risk and develop recommendations and/or plans to minimize risk.
  • Participate in incident investigation and corrective/preventative actions as needed.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday: typically 8:00AM-5:00PM

Education and Experience:

  • Junior level (or higher) undergraduate in engineering or physical sciences preferred. Environmental Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety or equivalent is ideal.
  • 0-2 years of engineering and/or environmental science internship experience.
  • Any manufacturing experience is a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel
