Job Summary
Performs skilled work under occasional supervision, operating an approved ambulance, rescuing victims and performing basic emergency care including the administration of life sustaining treatment to patients on-site and while en-route to the hospital. Responds to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment and transportation to sick or injured persons.

Essential Functions
  • Responds to requests for service and performs necessary medical care and procedures in accordance with state regulations and local established protocols for Basic Life Support.
  • Provides support and assistance to Paramedic level ALS Professionals as directed and within the credentialed scope of practice.
  • Coordinates on scene activities of EMS personnel and first responders.
  • Operates departmental communication equipment to communicate with dispatchers, physicians, nurses, and other emergency service personnel.
  • Prepares detailed medical operational, and incident reports.
  • Maintains vehicles, equipment, and supplies in a state of readiness in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Participates in required employee meetings for educational and operational purposes.
  • Performs other related duties or tasks as assigned by leadership staff to maintain the department in a continual state of readiness and present a professional appearance.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of vehicles, machinery and equipment as required to meet the essential job functions of an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. Must be able to exert up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects and or people. Physical requirements are for Heavy Work.

Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Vocational/Technical Diploma in an approved EMS curriculum. 1 to 2 years of experience in emergency medical service work, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Certification by the NC Medical Board as an Emergency Medical Technician. Possession of an active driver's license. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required. Possession of the following certificates or equivalent may be required: OR PHTLS, etc.
