We are seeking a Emergency Department Pharmacist for our facility to ensure that we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care. Job Summary:

* Responsible for the provision of comprehensive clinical pharmacy services for the ED and all associated areas (eg. Pediatrics, Trauma, Urgent Care) including pharmacokinetic and therapeutic consultation.
* Provide Pharmacy review of medication orders prior to administration and ensure safe and effective drug therapy for ED patients.
* In coordination with Clinical Coordinator, prepare formulary documents for new Emergency Department specific formulary requests.
* Reviews ED specific protocols, policies, and order sets and make recommendations regarding place on formulary. Develop guidelines to ensure appropriate use of high-cost and/or specialized drugs used in the ED.
* Participate in the development of medication use management programs within this facility including clinical guidelines, critical pathways, disease management, and drug use programs.
* Acts as a preceptor to residents and students when applicable. Maintains compliance with ASHP standards for a PGY1 preceptor.
* Participate in the professional development and competency of clinical staff. Functions as a role model and as an educational resource for pharmacy staff.
* Serve as a resource to the Emergency Department. Provide in-services and lectures to medical staff and other healthcare providers when applicable.
* Actively participates in clinical research projects with potential for presentation or publication.
* Keeps informed of all local, state and federal laws covering the storage, handling and dispensing of drugs and for interpreting each prescription order to determine that it meets all legal requirements.
* Keeps informed of the action, side effects and proper usage of all new drugs as they are made commercially available as well as of all investigational drugs being studied at this institution.
* Maintains awareness of contemporary trends in the profession through the professional literature and regular attendance at professional organization meetings, institutes and seminars.
* Provides patient specific medication teaching for discharge medications when appropriate.
* Focus on cost avoidance and cost savings due to medication use in the Emergency Department.
* Assist with medication reconciliation process for patients admitted to facility through the ED.
* Assist in obtaining medication allergies and reactions from ED patients.
* Promotes the use of formulary agents by converting nonformulary orders to formulary when possible, but coordinates the procurement of non-formulary medications when necessary.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Meditech or other required operating systems, Order Scanning Systems, Automated Dispensing Units, Packaging Equipment, Physician Order Entry, and Clinical Integration to systems.
* Maintain effective communication with Skyline directors and leadership teams on emergency department management opportunities
* Supervise and direct support Personnel
* Work with Staff and clinical pharmacists with dosing and coverage of all patients in the hospital when called upon. Proficient in all clinical and operational duties.
* Work with Quality and Pharmacy on Medication reconciliation, Stroke, SCIP, and all Core measures.
* Participates in special projects as needed and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Licensed Tennessee Pharmacist
* Post graduate emergency medicine residency, equivalent experience, and/or advanced training preferred
* 3 years of experience in area of specialty preferred
* Board certification preferred
