Job Description

Qualifications:

* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must have a LPN, Advanced EMT, Military Trained Pharmacy Technician, Certified Pharmacy Technician License, or 5 years as a technician in our pharmacy.
* Must have a manual dexterity to execute aseptic techniques.
* Must have mathematical ability to figure routine dose and volume amounts as evidenced by a passing score on the department math test prior to employment.
* Must be knowledgeable of aseptic techniques.

Language/Communication Skills:

* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
* Ability to communicate effectively in an emergency situation.

Skills:

* Experience in hospital setting preferred.
* Experience with keyboards and computers preferred.

* Manages all information obtained with strict confidentiality to safeguard patient information from use by unauthorized personnel.

* Files all the paperwork in the IV Admixture room each month. This includes TPN, chemocards, epidurals, outpatient, and narcotic records. Restocks IV room daily with supplies, leaving the next shift ready to begin work.

Unit Dose

* Delivers to any department whenever delivery is not possible by the pneumatic tube system. This includes delivery for unit does, IV admixture, or any satellite.
* Refills the unit dose bins after filling the patient medication bins.
* Identifies patient's home medications and has tem ready for a pharmacist to check.
* This includes delivery back to the nurses station.
* Knowledge of "nursery" and "dialysis" boxes exchange system. This includes proper charges and replacement of medications.
* Check and record refrigerator temperatures daily
* Cleans the assigned area for the pharmacy and checks for outdated medications monthly.
* Fills stock orders for other departments (PT, RT, Non-Invasive Cardiology etc) when necessary.
* Knowledgeable in obtaining the educational materials for the pharmacist to give to the customer.
* This includes getting the material ready for the pharmacist.
* Greets the customer in a friendly manner when receiving their prescriptions.
* Runs errands outside the employee pharmacy so the pharmacy will not be left without registered personnel.
* Fill Acudose machine as needed.

IV Admixture

* Restock IV room daily with supplies, leaving the next shift ready to begin work.
* Files all the paperwork in the IV Admixture room each month. This includes TPN chemocards, epidurals, outpatient, and narcotic records.

Unit Dose

* Performs all the necessary computer operations to ensure proper charge and credit of patient's medications on the day of service.
* Demonstrates a good working knowledge of the computer system; works with the program's content and performs day-to day routine maintenance for the computer's CRT's and printers with proficiency.
* Accurately fills the medication orders and repackages medication when needed with a pharmacist checking. This includes proper documentation of lot numbers and expiration dates whenever needed.
* Fills crash cart after codes with proper documentation of the next medications going out of date dates whenever needed.
* Knowledgeable to fill patient medication bins from a profile or on-line computer with a pharmacist checking.
* Proficient in charging and/or crediting of a daily fill list.
* Accurately pulls AcuDose items for other shift to fill.

Employee

* Assists the pharmacist in retrieving medication in an organized and timely manner
* Processes incoming orders from pharmacy vendors. This includes checking for correctness of items received, returning errors, and rotating stock as it is placed in the proper place.
* Identifies employee eligibility for services along with instructing customers about reimbursement if required.
* Reconciles cash and charge purchases with the cash register tape and the cash in drawer along with proper documentation. This includes taking the deposit to cashier and getting change. This is done daily.
* Responsible for the computer involving activation, back up, reports, computer repair assistance, and safety disc.
* Check and record refrigerator temps daily.
* Clean the assigned area of the pharmacy and check for outdated medications monthly.
* Reconcile the charge sheet and record changes daily. This includes manual charges.
* Restock supplies daily.
* Have customer charge sheets at counter daily.
* Files invoices, prescriptions, and any other paperwork daily.
* Verify the lock up medications weekly and document the correctness.
* Run appropriate reports from the computer on employee activity.
* Checks for any clinic orders and assembles them together to take to the main pharmacy for delivery to the clinics.

AcuDose

* Exports data from the AcuDose Host Computer.
* Imports data into AcuDose Program daily.
* Examines carefully the Dispense, Return, waste Documents daily - credits andy full wastes - matches up return list that are filled out when making round - marks them off list.
* Examines carefully the Charge Posting Rejection Sheets from Information Systems and matches them to the Billing sheets printed from the AcuDose Host Computer.
* Gathers medication shown on the Inventory Below Par sheets and signs out all narcotics accurately.
* Fills all Acudose machines correctly. Checks each medication added to make sure the shortest date is recorded.
* Edits patients each day to make sure they are listed correctly and communicating correctly.
* Does QA reports daily for Medication Documentation and Nurse Documentation Reports (this includes documentation of job completed.).
* Does monthly checks for outdated medications and documents.
* Responsible for adding new nurses codes to AcuDose Host computer and deleting names and codes upon termination.
* Files epidural records, Demoral, and Morphine PCA records daily.
* Verifies count in Narc Station monthly. Check narcotic records for OR2, OR 4, Employee Pharmacy and Pulmonary Medicine monthly.

IV Admixture

* Prepares all IV Admixtures in accordance with accepted standard of aseptic technique and observance of special safety techniques, protective clothing, and proper disposal of chemotherapy products under the supervision of a pharmacist.
* Monitors the computer generated labels for accuracy, compared to written order, as entered into the computer by a registered pharmacist.
