Job Summary
Assists in identifying and managing patients with behavioral health problems within the Emergency Care Center. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating telepsychiatry with the telepsych clinicians and psychiatrists, ensuring a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the options and services required to meet an individual�s behavioral health needs, under the direction of the ECC physician. Assists the Behavioral Health Consultation Service with the continuum of care for patients on the medical units, under the direction of the consulting psychiatrist. Provides ad-hoc consultation and support to the medical units, as requested, to address behavioral health concerns.

Essential Functions
  • Adheres to professional standards and code of ethics set forth by applicable licensing board.
  • Documents progress updates in patient�s medical records.
  • Demonstrates effective decision making in a rapid paced environment, with attention to detail, by utilizing logical and appropriate clinical judgment.
  • Participates in development, implementation, evaluation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and works to resolve barriers to patient�s seeking and receiving behavioral health services.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments, teammates, and family members to ensure effective behavioral health service delivery.
  • Utilizes resources to meet patient care needs by collaborating with appropriate community agencies.
  • Manages patients in crisis, utilizing appropriate skills and assessment.
  • Promotes a safe work environment, demonstrates safe work practice.
Physical Requirements
Works in patient care area with exposure to potentially agitated and/or aggressive patients and/or family members, utilizing Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) if necessary. Work requires frequent moving from one area to another, coordinating and communicating with patients, families and other teammates in various disciplines and departments. Must be able to work autonomously.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Masters degree in a relevant human services field required; two years of related behavioral health experience preferred. License to practice as a mental health provider in North Carolina; such as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychological Associate, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or other license recognized as a Medicaid eligible provider in North Carolina required. Meets mandatory requirements, including CPI certification and continuing education. Shows evidence of job specific competencies including excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Computer skills and literacy necessary to be able to use an electronic medical record. Working understanding and knowledge of HIPAA laws and regulations.
