Description
Job Title : Director Pharmacy Job Summary : Plans, directs and supervises the activities of the inpatient and ambulatory pharmacies according to the hospital's philosophy, policies and standard practices of the profession and state and federal laws. Establishes policies, procedures, standards and objectives for the provision of services and coordinates with other departments to provide maximum level of service to patients and staff. Education :

* Pharm D. degree and continuing education requirements of the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy. Residency training or advanced degree preferred.

Work Experience :

* Supervisory experience is required, along with sufficient previous experience as supervisor in a hospital pharmacy practice. Experience as Director of Pharmacy Services preferred.

* Licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi, and controlled substance license.
* Job Function :
* Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Ensures delivery of quality pharmacy services for inpatients, outpatients, and employees. Keeps employees informed of matters affecting their work and interests. Develops department goals and objectives, and establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operation. Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget. Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports. Prepares periodic reports for Administration, as required. Directs, coordinates and supervises all activities involved with medication management including purchasing, receiving, storing, compounding and dispensing and monitoring utilization of drugs. Establishes satisfactory methods of drug distribution and control. Supervises inventory control to meet patient needs. Supervises maintenance of patient records, files and other records. Consults with and advises medical staff personnel regarding utilization of drugs and pharmaceuticals. Keeps abreast of latest developments concerning new drugs or developments reported from research laboratories regarding drug usage. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. Directs the hospital's pharmaceutical research efforts. Maintains department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff. Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as required. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative. Establishes reporting and approval procedures delegates authority to assistants in order for them to direct work of others. Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. Management skills needed.

Functional Demand :

* Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 10-15 pounds with or without assistance. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced environment. Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control an ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
