DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the CEO, the Director of Pharmacy will be responsible for managing and directing the activities of the Department of Pharmacy. DOP is required to maintain a system of staff development and evaluation to ensure compliance with regulatory issues to promote optimal patient care. DOP must develop and maintain a system of financial and inventory control according to American Advanced Management's standards, including preparation, submission and administration of an annual department budget. DOP will direct departmental participation in various hospital committees to ensure appropriate representation (including, but not limited to, Infection Control Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Safety Committee). DOP must be able to work cooperatively with all hospital employees and patients and encourage and maintain good personal and business relationships with them. In addition to the daily (Monday-Friday) on-site activity, DOP may assist in the teaching of students and house staff where applicable. The DOP must perform other duties such as oversee outsource of contracted pharmacy of sub-acute and skilled nursing facility.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

* This position requires graduation from an accredited school of Pharmacy and State Licensure with minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
* CA pharmacy license in good standing.
* Pharm D or advance degree preferred.
* Must exercise sound professional judgment using initiative consistent with a high level of resident care.
* Ability to work efficiently and under broad guidelines, and must frequently exercise his/her own judgment in decision making.
* Regularly works with confidential information. Requires endurance to perform tasks over long periods of work hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides patient and/or customer education related to the individual's disease state, including predictable actions, side effects, reasons for proper compliance, and any special instruction.
* Dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients and/or customers about medications and their use.
* Familiarize self with current new pharmaceutical preparations prescribed for utilization by patients and/or customers to be able to render assistance to hospital staff.
* Prepacking bulk medicines, filling bottles with prescribed medications, and typing and affixing labels.
* Maintaining proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
* Cleaning and helping to maintain equipment or work areas and sterilize glassware, according to prescribed methods.
* May advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions and side effects of medications.
* Establishing or maintaining patient and/or customer profiles.
* Pricing and filing prescriptions that have been filled.
* Program, direct, review and rectify pharmacy procedures.
* Make formal requests for all supplies needed.
* Design and organize job descriptions and prepare annual performance evaluation on all employees in a prompt manner.
* Support supervising staff with an annual budget and hand over capital expenditures in line with standard policies.
* Set up and maintain a certified system of keeping records and the preparation of yearly budgets.
* Evaluate and improve manual of Policy and Procedure every year.
* Oversee the organization of inventories.
* Assisting customers by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
