This position reports to Vice President, Pharmacy Services, Yale New Haven Health to provide overall strategic direction and leadership to all retail businesses including Centralized IV Compounding services (503A and 503B) and Home Infusion Services. Responsible for management of operations including cost-effective service delivery, consistently meeting customer expectations related to service, clinical effectiveness and patient safety; development and implementation of quality measurement and improvement programs, human resources management, state, federal and applicable regulatory and accreditation compliance, evaluation of operating and capital resource needs and effective financial management related to productivity and budgeting. Serve as the operations resource and participate in strategic discussions surrounding program expansion, new clients, payer network inclusion strategies and contracting strategies. Oversee all management staff in these services and related staff. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities 1. Evaluate, develop and implement processes to provide optimal delivery of sterile compounding pharmacy services and home infusion services . 2. Evaluate, assess and weigh the pros and cons of planning options, operational situations and management approaches; be a strong decision-maker who measures and seeks objective answers. Gather information by participating, sampling the opinions of those closest to the operations to assure that plans, decisions and management are very connected to the business. Plan with clear goals and expectations that contribute to both efficiency and effectiveness in results as guiding standards . 3. Provide overall leadership and ensure accountability for responsible areas including but not limited to: human resources management including recruitment, retention, performance management, employee engagement and development of staff; Design and implement services and delivery processes that are responsive to customer needs and support exceptional customer service, clinical effectiveness, optimal financial performance and patient safety ; Provide ongoing, continuous management oversight, as a coach who is concerned with the growth and development of employees, and as one who can assure that management employees are held accountable for operating results which are clinically and financially solid and measurable; Responsible for setting operational and safety goals. 4. Provides a strategic plan for sterile compounding and home infusion services; ensure growth for all affiliates and members of the Health System and the patients they serve 5. Administers human resources policies and procedures in accordance with hospital and departmental policy. Communicates the status of projects, operations, staff concerns, and problems to the Vice President on a weekly basis or more frequently as needed. 6. Complies with all aspects of the Yale New Haven Health Standards of Behaviour and ensure that all management and staff under your responsibility comply as well 7. Manage drug expense to budget by monitoring drug expense, revenue and billing practices. Identifying opportunities for improvement, and initiating cost avoidance programs to achieve planned savings and /or cost avoidance. Strategically plan future budgets through drug forecast, volume, and inflationary projections 8. Establish a succession process/plan for development of leadership positions and increased staff engagement that improves communications, builds teamwork, and optimizes job functions to maximize efficiency. 9. Accountable for operational efficiency and optimal productivity with defined metrics for all sterile compounding and home infusion operational units as developed/assigned. Responsible for regulatory compliance on a federal and state level related to all pharmacy services including expert knowledge of USP 795,797, 800 and GMP standards. Organize the structure that is needed to optimize operational performance during fast growth and develop and implement the operational policies, systems and procedures that can assure consistency and predictability across similar operating units. 10. Accountable for working with the Senior Leadership team to adapt, modify and change systems and procedures as they are found to be inadequate or ineffective; take the opportunity to be a change agent when operating situations or deficiencies demand it. 11. Identify new business opportunities, evaluate, implement and operationalize as determined. 12. Works Collaboratively with all Directors of Pharmacy and key medical, nursing and administrative leads throughout the YNHHS and network affiliates to ensure strategies, goals and objectives and processes are aligned. Qualifications EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or a Bachelors Pharmacy with the addition of advanced degree (MS, MHA, MBA). Completion of an ASHP Accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency Program including a PGY -1 and PGY-2 in administration, specialty pharmacy, retail, ambulatory is highly preferred. EXPERIENCE Five to ten years management experience in sterile compounding pharmacy operations. Management of a multi-site operations preferred. Business development experience with start -up business preferred. Knowledge of a hospital pharmacy setting with strong working knowledge of integrated delivery model. Knowledge of regulatory, compliance and licensure issues at the federal and state level relative to specialty, retail and sterile compounding services. Advanced experience with employee engagement and project management. Candidates with experience managing many diverse projects and programs related to specialty, retail, and compounding pharmacy services that have demonstrated positive results on patient outcomes are required. Clear demonstration of professional personnel performance management and financial management is also required. LICENSURE CT Pharmacist Licensure Eligibility SPECIAL SKILLS Strong orientation and commitment to external and internal customer service; ability to work in a self directed environment; excellent ability to problem solve; to successfully look at system improvements in the clinical and business areas and interact with stakeholders; excellent oral and written communication skills , strong critical thinking skills; excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize /follow-up; excellent ability to manage in a fast-paced growing environment; proven leadership ability; ability to work effectively within Health System supporting growth of Specialty, Retail and Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Services. Project management, problem solving skills are required and must be demonstrated through past experience. Knowledge of automation technologies in outpatient dispensing and IV sterile compounding pertinent to safe and efficient dispensing is strongly preferred. Advanced knowledge of USP 797, USP 800, USP 795, and federal and state requirements for managing 503A and 503B services is required, including GMP. Six Sigma or other validated quality improvement certification is preferred. Proven fiscal management skills.Strong verbal and written communication and negotiating skills are essential.
