Job Description:

Director, Pharmacy

Directs, coordinates, and oversees operations in the hospital pharmacy in accordance with accepted hospital policies and procedures, ethical and professional practices, and State and Federal requirements.

Provides direction to supervisory personnel in managing their respective sections and supervises pharmacists, technicians, and other departmental staff.

Monitors the activities of all sections of the pharmacy and takes appropriate action as necessary to maintain efficient operation.

Directs and coordinates the integration of department functions with other aspects of overall patient care.

Maintains department compliance with accreditation requirements.

Directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceuticals and related substances and supplies.

Oversees the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items and maintains compliance with Federal and State regulations.

Complies with system directives relating to accountability of controlled substance distribution and accurate patient billing practices.

Identifies and resolves concerns relating to service to department customers/patients.

Interacts professionally with other hospital employees, practitioners, patients, and visitors.

Responsible for a planned, systematic process for monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of Pharmacy services

Prepares the annual budget for the Pharmacy department, reviews the budget performance of the department, and identifies and analyzes variances.

Directs and participates in the human resource management function for the Pharmacy Department; coordinates the selection, promotion, orientation, and performance appraisal/merit increase process.

Keeps Vice President properly informed regarding Pharmacy activities.

Directs and participates in the compilation and analysis of data on departmental activities and services and prepares related reports.

Maintains current knowledge of pertinent trends and developments in profession.

Develops and implements Pharmacy department Quality Plan.

Participates actively in all meetings of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other hospital committees as assigned.

Reviews, revises, and maintains departmental policies and procedures, inventory, and formulary for safe, effective drug therapy in conjunction with the Medical Staff.

Performs other duties/tasks as assigned by the Vice President.

Performs the duties of a Staff Pharmacist when necessary.

Qualifications

Pharm.D. or relevant clinical hospital pharmacy experience is desirable.

Three to five years' experience in hospital pharmacy field in a management capacity.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and

Licensures/Certifications/Registrations Required:

Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on

Pharmaceutical Education with at least a BS degree; PharmD is desirable.

Licensed Pharmacist with the Kentucky State Board of Pharmacy;

Must provide documentation of state licensure and CE as required by the state of KY.

Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MHA, MPH) desirable.
