Scope of Position:

In this role, you will function as a controls engineer in Corning Pharmaceutical Glass facility in Vineland. We look for you to program the controllers on the factory floor, debug and fix equipment issues and minimize downtime by identifying root causes and implementing robust engineering solutions. You will develop a deep understanding of the controls systems and how they work with other plant systems.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve controls systems (PLCs, HMIs, etc.) on the production floor to ensure optimal equipment operation and improve uptime and product quality metrics.
  • Identify the underlying reason behind controls systems issues and drive to the root cause.
  • Support new equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Act as the controls receiver.
  • Support production after install to solve issues and train personnel.
  • Plan electrical machine improvement, troubleshoot electrical problems, and execute electrical upgrade plans.
  • Collaborate with other engineering groups to align with plant priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance to develop training documentation, operating procedures, troubleshooting documents, and work instructions.
  • Provide controls expertise to multi-functional teams when needed.
  • Update engineering documents and drawings as changes are made to the systems.
  • Identify and lead improvements to existing controls systems.
  • Align new systems to plant and corporate standards.
  • Follow electrical safety requirement and implement safe practices.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel time required <5%

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Normal Business hours 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, M-F.
  • Production support off hours as needed.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years of controls experience.

Required Skills:

  • Ladder logic programming experience with Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience with HMIs and SCADA systems.
  • Electrical drawing skills in AutoCAD.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills. Ability to find the underlying reason for issues.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Master’s in engineering.
  • Exposure working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in implementing control strategies.
  • Experience with VFDs and servos.
  • Project management experience.

Soft Skills:

  • You will need strong written and verbal interpersonal skills.
