Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Brings concept to reality by understanding and defining the requirements, followed by system design, specification, fabrication, test, installation, startup and support of complete integrated process control systems. Ensures the conversion of customer requirements into total systems solutions that meet all requirements including schedule and cost. Readily develops solutions to moderate and complex problems. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

Work on individual projects or participate on team projects. Establish project requirements and develop project scope. Design and develop complete control systems for process equipment and measurement systems. Specify and configure controls platforms: PC, PLC, PAC. Develop custom controls software in Rockwell Automation’s Studio 5000, PLC ladder logic or high level languages like C and .NET. Develop HMI software. Work with drawings and schematics. Supervise fabrication and installation of electrical and controls panels and interface to process equipment. Perform configuration, calibration and check out of equipment and debug software. Troubleshoot, repair and restore existing control systems. Document work.


Travel Requirements (please note if international):

Minimal. Typically only for training, conferences and interfacing with vendors.


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

Typically 40 hours per week M-F, but can require more (project dependent).


Education and Experience:

B.S. or M.S. Electrical Engineering

5 to 10 years of experience in controls engineering


Required Skills:

1. Strong inclination toward machine/process control

2. Experience with PLCs, preferably Allen Bradley’s Logix Family of PACs

3. Experience programming in RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000

4. Experience troubleshooting electrical circuits and instrumentation

5. Thorough knowledge of AC and DC circuits

6. Understanding of classical control theory

7. Proficiency with schematics


Desired Skills:

1. Proficiency with Allen Bradley ControlLogix and RSLogix 5000

2. Experience programming in C, C#, VB, and VB.NET

3. Experience developing HMIs (Proficy iFIX / FactoryTalk View / PanelView)

4. Experience with Industrial PCs and National Instruments Hardware

5. Experience with RS232/485, EtherNet/IP and OPC

6. Experience with motion control programming

7. Experience with soft real time, event-driven multi-tasking programming

8. Experience developing project scopes and managing projects

9. Experience in power distribution and power controls
