PRIMARY PURPOSE Directs and controls the daily operations of general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, project activities, and fixed assets accounting to insure production of complete, accurate and timely transactions, statements and financial reports in compliance with Parkland's fiscal policies, directives and accounting procedures for Parkland Health and Hospital System and its Affiliates. Responsible for various audits, surveys and provides various financial reports and analysis to management, the Board and external agencies.

 

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting with at least 15 credit hours of accounting.

- Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Healthcare highly desired.

 

Experience:

- Ten (10) years of experience in a large, complex healthcare accounting environment, or comparable healthcare auditing experience with a minimum of five years supervisory experience.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

- May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

- CPA license preferred.

- Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-700.A: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction or obtain within 30 days of placement in role.

- Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-100.HCB: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS 100) for Healthcare/Hospitals or obtain within 30 days of placement in role.

- Must have Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) course certification for IS-200.HCA: Applying ICS to Healthcare Organizations (ICS 200) or obtain within 30 days of placement in role.

 

Skills or Special Abilities:

- Must have proven written and oral communication skills with demonstrated leadership ability.

- Must be capable of recruiting, developing and motivating people.

- Must be able to think creatively and strategically in order to develop and implement procedures and processes.

- Must have working knowledge of hospital organization and operations.

- Must have a strong understanding and proven experience in design and implementation of accounting controls in an automated environment.

- Must have experience with accounting software including general ledger and fixed assets. Lawson software experience highly desired although equivalent experience in similar systems will be considered.

- Must have significant accountability for the annual external audit including planning and analysis.

- Must have experience in collaborative development and implementation of specialized financial management reports for operating and finance areas.

- Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills and problem solving.

- Must have strong tact and diplomacy skills, and the ability to communicate with all levels of employees to include executive management and physicians.

- Must be able to think creatively and strategically, in order to develop and/or modify and implement accounting processes and procedures that meet both accounting and needs of other departments under appropriate accounting controls.

- Must be proficient with personal computers, spreadsheet and other applicable computer software.
