Continued Process Verification Summer Intern

The Continued Process Verification group in MSAT (Manufacturing Sciences and Technology) department is committed to improving the lives of our patients by providing risk based validation solutions that ensure that Bayer facilities, utilities, equipment and manufacturing processes consistently produce quality drug product and are compliant with internal and regulatory requirements.




The primary responsibilities of this role, Continued Process Verification Summer Intern, are to: 


  • Assist senior staff in performing statistical analytics and trend analysis of manufacturing data to demonstrate process consistency and capability;
  • Use statistical tools (such as JMP) to quantitatively detect problems within the drug manufacturing process and identify and document root causes;
  • Identify opportunities to optimize processes that may pre-emptively increase quality reliability;
  • Use knowledge management systems such as Discoverant, PI-historian, SIMCA and other data analytics;
  • Assist with authoring of technical papers/posters;
  • Read industry publications.

Required Qualifications:


  • Currently enrolled in the Junior or Senior year in a 4 year Bachelor undergraduate program or a Masters level program with a preferred focus in Biological Sciences or related science (chemical/physical or mathematical sciences) or engineering (biomedical,  chemical or bio-engineering);
  • A good understanding of cell culture, protein purification and biochemical processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to deal professionally with internal customers of various organizational levels;
  • Ability to work effectively within a departmental team and with members of the same or higher organizational levels;
  • Good organization, documentation, prioritization and scheduling skills together with an overall desire to learn;
  • Basic problem solving and project management abilities together with a professional image;
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task;
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office with beginner level  proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration with others and independent thought;
  • Extended use of personal computers;
  • Light office work in organizing data, filing electronic and paper documents.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Additional interest and understanding of basic statistical data analysis is preferred
  • Prior internship or co-op experienice in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry is preferred
