Jobs in this career family are responsible for performing a wide range of professional duties to support the university's teaching, research and/or service missions through the provision of health and wellness services, dealing with general, indirect patient care operations and management of healthcare services. Functions include hospital administration, healthcare regulatory compliance, patient relations, operational services, admissions, and medical records. Includes professional assignments in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, counseling and behavioral health, public health, dietetics and nutrition, other allied health fields, alternative medicine and therapies, and related disciplines.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.

Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

The Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center (HTC) is a specialized disease management center within the School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. It provides direct comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services to 2000 patients with rare chronic bleeding and clotting disorders throughout a multiple state region. The unit is comprised of clinic services, laboratory services, pharmacy services, research services and patient support programs.

The HTC operates a specialty pharmacy limited to serving the HTC patients with bleeding and clotting disorders, primarily providing hemophilia factor products and related medications throughout a multi-state area. The Clinical pharmacist is a member of the HTC's multidisciplinary team, and has direct patient interaction regarding compliance monitoring, drug histories and product education. The pharmacist manages drug distribution and record keeping for the center's investigational drug studies and clinical trials. The pharmacist provides drug information and education for the staff. The pharmacist provides daily dispensing and distribution functions and oversees pharmacy technicians, Interns, and other support staff.

On Call duties:

* Share on Call 24/7 pager responsibility (33%) with other HTC
* Pharmacists, for bleeding disorders patients of the HTC Pharmacy

Research Activities:

* Fill research study prescriptions
* Assist with research study drug records
* Maintain all Epic related research documentation

Counseling and Patient Care Responsibilities:

* Meet with multi-disciplinary staff for weekly patient conferences and participate in daily huddles.
* Assist with ongoing clinical assessments to include: current medication history, medication adherence, therapeutic goals, educate patients regarding products, present pharmacy services to patients and families
* Conduct patient clinical assessments and patient specific care plans and document these in patient management software
* Discuss and document infusion compliance, bleed history, update medication profile, update current allergies, other disease states, and quality of life assessment with patients during patient contact calls and visits -initiating and updating care plans as necessary
* Identify specific patient problems and notify appropriate interdisciplinary team members
* Consultation with practitioners as needed
* Assist patients and families with manufacturer assistance programs

Pharmacy Operations, Dispensing, Distribution:

* Fill prescriptions and dispense factor products and ancillary medical supplies
* Forecast and manage factor inventory necessary to serve patients during product shortages and avoid expired inventory losses
* Coordinate reimbursement services with Center's Insurance Coordinators in order to mitigate revenue losses
* Maintain all standards and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy, research regulations and federal 340B OPA-HRSA program requirements
* Maintain practice in accordance with all policies and procedures required for continued accreditation of the specialty pharmacy
* Perform specific patient PK analyses for Factor products as requested by providers
* Perform non-sterile compounding for limited specialty products used for bleeding disorder patients
* Assist with training new employees as required
* Maintain all daily operations and oversee technicians, interns, and support staff
* Assist Pharmacy Manager with other activities as assigned
* Maintain updated professional licensure in states that the pharmacy services as required by regulations

Drug Information Responsibilities:

* Provide drug information to patients and other health care providers
* Attend relevant pharmacy practice seminars and meetings
* Maintain personal professional skills related to the broader practice of pharmacy
* Maintain bleeding disorder pharmacy best practice guidelines as required for accreditation standards

Minimum Qualifications:

* Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with a PharmD degree
* Licensed pharmacist (current and unrestricted) in the State of Colorado or able to obtain licensure
* 5 years of experience in pharmacy or completion for PGY1 Residency
* Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and pharmacy patient care management systems
* Direct patient counseling experience

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment:

* Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
* Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check
* Primary Source Verification - DORA, Colorado State Board of Pharmacy
* Licensed pharmacist (current and unrestricted) in states in which the Pharmacy is registered, as required by that state.
* Will be required to obtain other state licenses by reciprocity as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in university setting.
* 3 years of experience in specialty pharmacy practice
* Experience in working with pharmacy students, interns and residents.
* Experience with specialty pharmacy accreditation standards
* Experience in working with institutional electronic medical records (EMR)
* Experience in research protocols and investigational study management
* Experience in a multidisciplinary health care team setting.
