If you said yes, keep reading – we may have the perfect opportunity for you.

As part of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you’ll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, and in support of the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Clinical Nurse I means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us.

Inside Hoag’s CCU

Our CCU features 12 beds and has a nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. You may be required to use a range of interventions such as: endotracheal intubation, ventilatory support, invasive pressure monitoring, tracheostomies, thrombolytic therapy, cardioversions, hemofiltration, peritoneal dialysis, atrial and ventricular overdrive pacing, intra-aortic balloon pumping, insertion of pulmonary artery and transvenous pacing catheters, chest tubes, pericardial catheters, arterial lines, bronchoscopy and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).

Other duties may include:

  • Providing care for patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring and vasopressor therapy, experiencing respiratory distress, and receiving sedation and neuromuscular blocking medications.

  • Demonstrating skill in the use of specialized equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures and practices.

  • Caring for patients with induced Hypothermia and pacemakers, undergoing bypass procedures, experiencing chest pain, and those with central venous catheters, including multi-lumen, dialyses, PICC, etc.

  • Preparing and assisting with invasive procedures.

  • Identifying, assessing, and intervening for patients experiencing complex cardiac dysrhythmias.

Hoag nurses consistently maintain a high standard of professional communication, appearance and conduct. They’re driven to excel in patient treatment and nursing, and they’re deeply passionate about their work. To that end, we’ll expect you to participate in our continuous quality improvement process and maintain a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures.

We’re keen on following safety measures and infection control protocols, being attentive to details, and having intimate knowledge of the populations we serve.
