Certified Pharmacy Technician

Reports to: Director of Pharmacy

16-21 per hour

FLSA Status: Full-time Non-Exempt, Hourly

The Pharmacy Technician will provide technical and clerical assistance in the development and operation of the Pharmacy; for assisting in the receipt and dispensing of orders; for the development and maintenance of records and reports under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Essential Functions:

* Assist with management of outdated medication in areas including Pharmacy, ER, Hospital, Surgery, Pyxis system, Clinic, Crash Cart and Medication Kits.
* Pyxis refilling daily. Make adjustments of Pyxis par levels based on usage.
* Work with licensed pharmacist to assure purchasing, handling and dispensing of medication complies with state and federal regulations.
* Answer phone calls and screen for which calls are operational and which could handled by a technician and which are clinical and need to be addressed by a licensed pharmacist.
* Assist with ordering of non-controlled medications from suppliers.
* Order and maintain all supply items in the pharmacy. Help with filling and maintaining all required records.
* Assist with the management of Pyxis users' access and formulary.
* Deliver medication to all areas of the facility.
* Review Athena charge reports daily.
* Place charges into Athena system for items that did not bill properly.
* Register specific product bar codes into Athena system to allow nursing to scan barcodes upon administration.
* Work in "clean room" once fully trained, including monitoring and completing cleaning tasks that will need to be logged daily.
* Monitor and log refrigerator temperatures.
* Inspect all drug storage areas monthly and record issues.
* Assist with filling and recording all inter-departmental drug transfers.
* Log all expired drug products (for $ value) and prepare them for return via reverse distributor.
* Adheres to the standards and policies of the corporate compliance program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulation, and report to a designated manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
* Adheres to the safety guidelines as outlined by the facility and reports unsafe equipment, areas, practices, etc., as required by policy.
* Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

* High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a pharmacy technician program.
* One to three years of previous office, business, or retail systems experience required; one of which as a Pharmacy Technician with telephone and in-person contact/transactions desired.
* Ability to keyboard accurately with moderate speed, and the ability to work/complete tasks individually and with minimal supervision.
* One year of experience working as a pharmacy tech performing pharmaceutical calculations and other related tasks desired.
* Be registered with DORA as a pharmacy technician (required).
