BASIC SUMMARY: 

 

Performs general housekeeping in order to maintain a clean SOP- compliant facility. Perform cage wash duties and maintain equipment and support areas in compliance with facility SOPs. Assist in performing animal husbandry duties and animal health observations in accordance with site SOPs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas. Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, Animal husbandry duties to maintain quality health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle/automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; perform daily room/floor cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. Perform decontamination of permanent and mobile swine housing rooms and equipment as described in facility procedures. Removes trash, sweeps, and mops and provides general cleaning and sanitization of all areas, including floors, corridors, and restroom, necropsy and procedure rooms. Performs said duties in other areas as needed. Cleans and re-supplies bath/locker room as needed. Transports equipment and supplies between rooms and outside storage areas. Assist in the acclimation of swine as directed by Supervisor. Assist in animal restraint as directed by Supervisor.  Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas or semi-rigid isolator environments, including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use, spraying in all equipment and materials into controlled areas. Operate cage wash and facility equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions; use supplies according to safety guidelines; adhere to safety procedures. Assist in the repair and maintenance of cage wash equipment according to applicable SOPs. Maintain feed & bedding area; rotate and label feed per SOPs.Assist Technicians and Supervisor as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Experience:  Previous experience with housekeeping/sanitization duties and equipment.
