**Position Description** :

Are you interested in becoming a member of the pharmacy department to support staff who assists in the provisions of pharmacy services as authorized by the NJ State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations? Do you have the skills and knowledge to be responsible for the purchasing and reconciling of all pharmaceutical products and maintain appropriate inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and equipment/supplies with the pharmacy? . The Purchaser maintains accurate records and reports regarding all pharmaceutical products. This individual utilizes system reports to optimize the inventory quantities (e.g. minimize incidence of medication stock outs).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manages the purchasing of all pharmaceutical and related products and supplies for inpatient, outpatient infusion, and retail pharmacy areas. Maintains appropriate inventory levels, seeks alternative products during situations when formulary products are unavailable, and informs management and staff of product changes.

2. Utilizes group purchasing contracts and individual hospital contracts to ensure cost effective purchasing. Monitors back orders and assures charge back is granted from vendor when appropriate.

3. Coordinates the receipt of inventory, verifies accuracy of shipments, and advises wholesaler and vendors of discrepancies when problems arise. Oversees the appropriate storage of products within the pharmacy department, facilitates rotation of stock, and coordinates the expiration inspection of inventory.

4. Oversee receipt of narcotic medications along with respective documentation from wholesaler into the narcotic vault.

5. Responsible for record keeping of all purchases. Maintains the required documentations based on regulatory requirements (e.g. DEA, and Drug Supply Chain Security Act), and prepares invoices for payment authorization.

6. Prepares financial reports as needed to support the pharmacy management team. Identifies cost saving opportunities to maintain pharmacy budget.

7. Manage free-trial program medication inventories and replacement requests.

8. Participates in weekly Inventory Management and System Shortage meetings. Helps develop and implement operational plans to prevent/manage medication shortages and their resultant impact to patient care.

9. Assists with medication recalls with regards to identifying product location(s) and/or inspecting storage areas.

10. Works in conjunction with the Pharmacy Tech Specialists to coordinate/manage coverage of certain time-sensitive tasks for one another.

OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Other duties as assigned including staffing to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

2. Proposes formulary deletions based on data regarding usage trends to facilitate cost saving initiatives.

3. Assists with the provision of pharmacy services to hospital inpatients and PMPH outpatients by assisting the staff as needed.

4. Age-Specific Knowledge and Skills; Possesses the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patients' physical, psychological and social needs with those growth and development levels/patient populations served within the Pharmacy Department.

5. Maintains standards of confidentiality.

**Minimum Requirements** :

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor's degree required.

Related Work Experience

• 0-1 related work experience required.

• 2-4 years related work experience preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

• Current New Jersey Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License required

SPECIALIZED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 2 years working experience in the hospital pharmacy setting.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; professionalism.

• Customer service orientation, a teamwork approach, flexibility, organizational and problem-solving skills.

• Computer literacy; knowledge of clinical and other computer systems.

• Inventory Management, Pharmacy purchasing/contract experience.

• Familiar with process improvement activities.

• Demonstrates the ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions and solve problems with speed and accuracy.

• Able to re-prioritize workload to meet deadlines with new and current projects.
