The BioProcess Technical Support Technician position is available at the Merck Animal Health facility in De Soto, Kansas, located near Kansas City metropolitan area.  The DeSoto facility is expanding operations to manufacturing vaccines and biologics for large and companion animals.  Leveraging an experienced and innovative team environment, the key technologies at the site are biologics production using fermentation and cell culture platforms, filling and packaging.

The BioProcess Technical Support Technician will be responsible but not limited to the following:

  • With moderate supervision, performs laboratory procedures of viral cell culture and bacterial fermentation processes for manufacturing platforms in the production of veterinary vaccines. 
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment. 
  • Assists in writing routine laboratory procedure protocols. 
  • Responsible for recording data, performing routine calculations, and providing tabulated summaries to supervisor
  • Coordinates work schedule with team members. 
  • Assists in the preparation of standard operating procedures and R&D procedures. 



Associates Degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related science, OR High School diploma with 2 years relevant work experience

Required : 

  • Must have good writing and communication skills
  • Must have good mathematical abilities
  • Must be familiar with common laboratory procedures
  • Must be able to follow written or verbal instructions without extensive supervision


  • Excellent aseptic technique and basic laboratory methods of virus propagation, bacterial fermentation and downstream processing.
  • Experience/understanding of bioprocesses, fermentation, cell culture and assays in research, production and/or Manufacturing environment are preferred.
  • Ability to interact within the group and cross-functional and collaborative teams.
  • Knowledge of cGMP procedures is desirable
