Under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse, participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of delivery of care. 


Non-provider based, physician practice sitesand utilizing the “medical model” of care delivery; patient assessments, plan of care and discharge plan are performed by a physician, Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA)..  Under this model, the incumbent assists the Physician in providing prescribed care or treatment to the patient.




  • Graduation from an accredited LPN program is required
  • Must have a current LPN license in the state of Georgia
  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
  • PEARS Certification within one year of hire date. PALS required in Urgent Care.
  • Must have satisfactorily completed the Children's IV medication competency during orientation
  • Two years previous experience in the health care setting is preferred


Assists the licensed professional personnel in providing care to patients and families incorporating age related and developmental needs.

Participates in meeting the educational needs of the patient/family

Participates in providing discharge instructions as delegated by the  licensed professional practitioners (MD/NP/PA).

Maintains professional development.

Supports the performance improvement process for the department.

Assist in maintaining the departmental budget within the established fiscal guidelines.

Clinical staff may serve a specific patient population and have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines.  This age population includes:

N = Neonate (less than 30 days)

I = Infant (30 days to 1 year)

EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years)

LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years)

A = Adolescent (13-17 years)

AD = Adult

ALL - all ages

Performs other responsibilities as required

Special Note: The LPN may not perform the following tasks:

Documentation of the initial inpatient admission assessment

Initiation of Caregiver Protocols, with the exception of influenza vaccine protocols.

Initiation of the administration of blood products, unsupervised

Initiate chemotherapy infusions or administer IV push chemotherapy

Complete the initial assessment for restraints

Unsupervised administration of code resuscitation drugs by IV push
