Description Summary

Prepares and reviews contracts involving leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate and other matters. Studies legal decisions and proposed and existing statutes and regulations affecting the organization and advises affected departments. Gives legal advice with respect to administration and prepares resolutions and forms. Reviews and approves correspondence and statements from a legal standpoint. Anticipates and guards against legal risks involving the organization. Participates in legal actions. Provides legal advice for a number of different areas of the organization.

Accountabilities


  1. Counsel management on the legal handling of business transactions such as leases and contracts.

  2. Identify potential legal issues related to business practices and policies and advise client/management.

  3. Draft, and/or review contracts, endorsements and agreements, restructuring where necessary to meet requirements.

  4. Review and interpret legal decisions and proposed and existing statutes and regulations.

  5. Represent the company at regulatory, legislation and other legal proceedings and administrative hearings.

  6. Develop and review corporate governance and compliance procedures.


Requirements


  • Degree in law and admission to the state bar and 2 years of related work experience in: 

    • Matters related to Minnesota government programs including Medicaid (Medical Assistance) and MinnesotaCare and health plan statutory and regulatory requirements in Minnesota and interaction with federal law including CMS requirements.

    • Matters related to the Medicare program and requirements applicable to health plans including regulations and other guidance documents

    • Drafting, negotiating and reviewing legal agreements.

    • Preparing and communicating legal summaries of laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance and assistance with implementing existing and new programs, policies and procedures.
