The Associate Director of Pharmacy Strategy and Programs is responsible for building strong relationships across the enterprise and providing tailored solutions to Optum care delivery organizations. These may include managing, coordinating, and completing projects across various functional areas and business units related to value-based strategies and integrated pharmacy services. Advances understanding of P&T committees, drug reviews, financial models, distribution channels, pharmaceutical group purchasing organizations, wholesalers, provider/facility networks, unit costs and pricing, revenue cycle mgmt., site of service, and medical benefits. Identifies market nuances and areas of opportunity. Provides subject matter expertise in areas including project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, facilitation, and other areas of expertise based on established project management techniques. Makes presentations to management on project updates, project cycle, and expected results. Collaborates with stakeholders across the enterprise to ensure projects are aligned with core strategies and goals, implemented, and launched on time and in scope. Participates in annual business planning and end-to-end designs of pharmacy programs and strategies. May manage vendor and service providers to define project scope and performance expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and supports pharmacy programs to achieve key strategic and business goals
  • Ensures alignment and understanding of program/project scope and objectives with the organization's strategic objectives and the Voice of the Customer(s)
  • Partners with executive leaders in the development of organizational objectives and short and long-term goals
  • Partners with various business units, leadership, and Care Delivery Organizations (CDOs) to identify/define performance planning/measures, programs, initiatives, based on emerging industry trends and growth opportunities
  • Oversees and instructs functionally diverse teams to achieve desired end-results on complex problems regarding projects
  • Leads and guides functional and segment teams through project implementations with competing agendas and priorities
  • Creates compelling interactive dashboards for internal and external customers to identify, design, recommend and execute solutions to deliver actionable information
  • Assists in the creation of therapeutic clinical reviews and financial models for Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T)
  • Develops appealing data visualizations leveraging multiple internal and external data sources (quantitative and qualitative), and drawing insightful conclusions for decisions makers
  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Provides subject matter expertise and operational support to internal business partners
  • Coaches, mentors, and provides feedback to others
  • Maintains project and process knowledge bank to support best practice identification and implementation
  • Collaborates cross-departmentally to manage risk forecasting/mitigation, project progress, and issue resolution efforts
  • Acts as a liaison between internal and external teams to help steer workstream communications to ensure response integrity
  • Influences senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches that may have segment-wide impact
  • Develops appealing data visualizations leveraging multiple internal and external data sources (quantitative and qualitative), and drawing insightful conclusions for decisions makers
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • Current and unrestricted Pharmacy License in your current state of residence
  • 5+ years clinical pharmacist, operations, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics experience
  • 5+ years in a Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) or Managed Care plan, with understanding of provider network contracts and/or pharmaceutical rebates
  • 3+ years working with Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Distributors, Manufacturers, with understanding of government and commercial contracts and pricing
  • 3+ years in provider practices with revenue mgmt. cycle experience, must have a working knowledge of payer contracts, fee schedules, allowable tables
  • 3+ years professional project management experience
  • Strong proficiency with Visio, SharePoint, MS Office Suite (including Excel and Access)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong prioritization, attention to detail, effective multi-tasking, verbal/written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create an effective team environment, build strong relationships.
  • Strong in solving problems and issues in a matrix environment and communicating effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • Advance analytical and technical skills, including Tableau, SQL or SAS

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
