Merck's Global Talent Acquisition (GTA) organization is currently seeking an Associate Director Talent Acquisition Advisor (TAA) to be accountable for developing and executing on diverse recruitment strategies to deliver the highest quality talent, internal and external, to drive organizational objectives within Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD). He/she acts as a talent acquisition lead and is accountable to partner with TA strategic partners in managing the talent pipeline, while executing recruitment strategies to support and fill staffing needs. He/she will have lead responsibilities and oversight or special initiatives related to talent acquisition. The Associate Director will monitor the status of recruitment activities and analyze data and trends to determine effectiveness and overall success of recruitment plans. This role will be responsible for inspiring Talent Acquisition team members to embrace innovative sourcing strategies and techniques which engage both active and passive candidates. This includes close collaboration with RPO to ensure integrated team success. Additionally, (s)he will ensure a strong focus on quality candidate, hiring manager, and key stakeholder experiences. In addition to managing a team and ensuring delivery of high caliber end to end recruiting solutions, (s)he will personally manage a portfolio of executive level searches and talent mapping activities across their business area(s).

(S)he will ensure the ongoing and future organizational talent demands are met while ensuring employment policies and practices are compatible with all federal and state employment laws. He/she will provide leadership of cross-functional and cross-divisional teams to implement and/or manage an array of staffing initiatives, RPO supervision, policies or programs, ensuring stakeholder participation, support and pull-through.

Business Strategy & Needs identification:

  • Primary point person for senior level searches within functional area; close collaboration with the executive sourcing team to ensure resourcing and senior stakeholder management for Executive Director/AVP hiring
  • Develop, coach, and build capability of recruitment team to deliver leaders for the future
  • Identify how changes in business strategy impact talent planning needs.
  • Help hiring managers and team members navigate trade-offs between market, speed and quality while setting clear expectations on service level agreements. 
  • Provide advice and counsel to leaders and hiring managers on what skills or characteristics matter most when they evaluate candidates, establishing best selection process in terms of strategy, tools and participant experience.
  • Partner with leaders and hiring managers to ensure they prioritize position requirements based on business need; collaborate with RPO as appropriate to ensure seamless support
  • Craft and executive branding and marketing initiatives to address critical staffing initiatives in partnership with D&I, Branding, University Relations and the RPO
  • Assess and advise on the talent and business risks & benefits of hiring specific candidates.
  • Challenge leaders and hiring managers about talent assumptions while educating trends in the labor market.
  • Use competitive analysis to understand hiring needs and recruiting practices of talent competitors.
  • Understand the availability of talent across critical talent segments. 
  • Sourcing Partnership and Extended Team member resource management
  • Suggest and execute innovative, effective and efficient recruitment strategies needed to acquire top talent, including diverse and military job seekers.
  • Have a deep understanding of strategic business priorities and how the organization achieves business goals and profitability.
  • Make recommendations based on how positions create value to the business.
  • Respond to talent acquisition needs and inquiries from HRBPs, business leaders, hiring managers, etc. with firm-specific business knowledge. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years of recruitment experience or a Master's degree with 8 years of recruitment experience
Required:
  • A minimum of 10 years previous experience in recruiting, preferably in large / global, matrixed environments
  • Prior experience recruiting all levels of talent across a range of functions as a corporate in-house recruiter or in a Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) model
  • Extensive experience in candidate assessment, as well as recruiting principles, theories and concepts with ability educate hiring managers on conducting behavior-based interviewing and compliant candidate selection practices
  • Demonstrated success in the crafting creative solutions to increase qualified pool of candidates through creative uses of social media, networking groups, sourcing tools, and other media campaigns
  • Proven history of delivering with a sense of urgency; operating with a strong customer satisfaction approach
  • People management experience with track record of developing talent and fostering a community of teamwork
  • A demonstrated track record as an effective networker and closer, confident in developing complex offers with collaborative partners, including external vendors.
  • An executive presence which fosters credibility with senior hiring leaders and elevates the role beyond tactical execution to trusted, strategic business partner
  • Knowledge of U.S. employment laws
Preferred:
  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech experience
