Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain a suite of assessment tools for use in talent acquisition across the Company. Partners with colleagues across HR to ensure assessment tools are in place for key roles or capabilities in the organization.
  • Aligns selection practice with Merck’s overall assessment strategy to ensure the right insights on individuals are being captured during the employee/applicant lifecycle.
  • Collaborates with HR Operations in communicating the availability and appropriate use of selection and assessment tools. 
  • Consult with divisional and regional Talent Acquisition leaders, for application to their clients. Build capability in those groups to enable appropriate local use. 
  • Select and manage the relationships with assessment suppliers to ensure optimal mix of quality, ease of use, cost, etc. Regularly re-evaluate alternatives and tools, and update suite of resources as needed. 
  • Through vendors, community of practice and personal involvement, ensure appropriate interpretation and communications of assessment results with clients.
  • Partner with suppliers, Talent Acquisition, and HR Operations to execute front-end and back-end components to assessment including: job analysis, job specification, and adverse impact analyses.
  • Identifies and directs the execution of research studies to justify the validity of assessment tools being used for personnel selection and establish linkages between assessment results and other relevant organizational criteria. Partners with Workforce Analytics, HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, and local HR to execute studies and apply changes to 
  • Coordinate the update of HR information systems (e.g., Taleo) with evidence of completion of assessments
  • Develop internal assessment solutions and perform assessment services as needed
  • Address legal/compliance-related matters involving assessment; partner with vendors to ensure legal defensibility of assessments
  • Maintain knowledge, network and expertise in external best practices in selection research and methodologies, and appropriate application of those methodologies for management decision making. 
  • Collaborate with heads of Global Talent Acquisition, GTA Operations, and Early Talent in applying best practices and leading edge approaches across Merck.
  • Establish and lead a community of practice in personnel selection methods and practice, which may include regional and divisional Talent Acquisition advisors, RPO partners, and selected HR business partners.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with 8 years of experience in applying assessment tools for personnel selection and employment-related decisions; or PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related discipline with evidence of applied experience in personnel selection. 
Required:
  • Knowledge of compliance issues surrounding personnel selection, including adverse impact, relevant personnel selection law and jurisprudence in key markets, and data privacy requirements in key markets. 
  • Clear demonstration of the Scientist/Practitioner model; subject matter expert in selection research, pragmatic and business-focused in application.
  • Strong business and global acumen and experience.
  • Strong client service orientation with ability to coach and influence senior line and HR leaders on appropriate uses of assessment methodologies.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, preferably within a large matrix organization. Flexibility to meet business needs while moving key programs and priorities forward.
  • Discretion, comfort and confidentiality in working with very sensitive information.
