This critical role is responsible for managing the eCommerce and web-based HCP Promotional efforts for Merck Vaccines in the US as well as, our eCommerce web portal for direct purchasers of our pharmaceutical products.  The successful candidate will be responsible for a deep understanding of our customers and their needs as it relates to web-based promotion, ordering and account management. They will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team of marketing and IT professionals with the goal of efficient and reliable website performance and continuous improvement.

  • The successful candidate for this position must be able to collaborate with internal and external teams to maximize efficiencies within marketing programs. 
  • Assist in strategy development for digital properties for vaccines, including strategic partnerships
    • Work closely with other channels and business units to understand the “bigger picture” 
  • Point for all vaccines franchise teams, Solutions Teams, OMC and the US3C Vaccines for content and business transactions on, and other stakeholders as needed
  • Responsible for leveraging divisional content and solutions created by the solutions teams
  • Provide thought leadership and strategic direction for global e-commerce
  • Coordination with IT/Client Services/ Promotions and other groups as appropriate
  • Consult as needed with other functions to assure a cohesive web presence for Merck Vaccines across HCP customer segments
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
  • Integrate feedback from customers and customer facing teams to improve the site functionality and product information and solutions
  • Work with internal & external teams to continuously improve the customer experience
  • Assist in developing traffic-generating strategies and tactics that will drive new customers to the site
  • Explore, define and implement innovative on-site solutions and tactics to drive site traffic, acquire new customers and retain current customers
  • Provide ongoing tracking and analysis of our customer’s behaviors through web traffic, market analysis, competitive analysis and site analytics
  • Report and seek business intelligence, competitor analysis and performance analytics on a regular basis. Report on site KPIs and user trends.
  • Integration of as a communication channel with other channels
  • Promotion budget management and reporting



  • Required: BA/BS degree in business, marketing, operations, computer science or information technology or related field 
  • Preferred: MBA or other advanced degree

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of marketing, promotions, web design, digital marketing or other relevant experience
  • Headquarters experience
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Technical/IT Acumen
  • Ability to collaborate/influence without authority
  • Ability to operate in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to think strategically and develop and implement tactics

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • eCommerce and/or Web-based Promotions Experience
  • US Vaccine marketing and/or sales
