The Center for Observational and Real-world Evidence (CORE) is looking for an Associate Director of Data Sciences & Strategic Partnerships with expertise in data sciences and informatics to contribute to the development, exchange, and communication of evidence that demonstrates the value of Merck’s pharmaceuticals and vaccines and provides our customers (payers, providers, patients, policy makers) with transformative insights. The candidate filling this position will be working in a multi-faceted, cross-functional environment interfacing both externally with vendors and clients, and internally with Merck leaders. Responsibility include (but are not limited to): 
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop strategic partnerships with novel health data and technology opportunities to generate insights that inform healthcare decisions and policy through novel studies, methods, and technologies
  • Lead data innovation initiatives to increase access to and interoperability of data, models, analytics, and value evidence 
  • Establish rapid, interactive, and self-service analytic and data visualization capabilities and workflows
  • Advance the development and diffusion of open-source health economic modeling methodologies
  • Leading and conducting data analytic projects using standard and advanced analytic methods
  • Lead value analytic and informatics initiatives in the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI), Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and/or American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) communities 
  • Advance, present, and publish novel methodologies in the fields of data science, informatics, and health technology assessments (HTA) at international/national congresses and in scientific and technology journals 
We are seeking an individual that is comfortable working independently and can initiate and execute innovative projects that bridge data science, informatics, and/or HTA methodologies. The individual should also be comfortable solving complex problems across multi-functional teams, bring a flexible mindset with the ability to identify, generate and evaluate alternatives best suited to business needs, and have entrepreneurial and intellectual curiosity applied to understanding of health data.


  • Masters or Doctoral degree in business, economics, epidemiology, genetics, health services research, informatics, biostatistics, computer science, engineering, public health, policy, or a related discipline.

  • 3+ years of experience in the design and implementation of quantitative science methods in healthcare industry
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communications (written and oral)
  • Entrepreneurial and evidence of intellectual curiosity

  • Experience applying artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and blockchain in healthcare
  • Experience in the OHDSI, HIMSS, and/or AMIA communities
  • Experience visualizing and communicating data in multiple ways
  • Experience in business development
