Position Description:

The Department of Natural, Health, and Mathematical Sciences at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU), a faith-based university in Olathe, Kansas, invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Science. The candidate should be broadly trained in physics, engineering, or physical chemistry and have a graduate degree in any related area. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and to Christian education. The successful applicant will be able to teach introductory physics (both algebra and calculus-based), in addition to elective courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can teach introduction to engineering, circuit design, or general chemistry.

Position Reports to: Chair, Department of Natural, Health, & Mathematical Sciences

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate coursework in physics, including laboratories
  • Teaching general education science courses
  • Serve as an academic advisor for pre-engineering students and related disciplines
  • Recruitment of students interested in engineering and related careers
  • Serve as liaison for an established dual degree engineering partnership and initiating potential new engineering partnerships
  • Serve on departmental and university committees
  • Facilitate community engagement projects related to engineering
  • Other duties as assigned by the department chairperson and school dean
