Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

  • Technical leadership of a large, global customer of strategic importance to Environmental Technologies
  • Manage, coach and mentor application engineers supporting the customer around the globe
  • Drive product, process, and technology projects in support of Corning and the customer

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the Global Applications Engineering team
  • Apply existing CET business processes effectively and rigorously
  • Lead technical aspects of relationships with Customer
    • Negotiate and gain acceptance for external product specifications
    • Lead internal response to product quality disagreements with customers and represent the outcome to the customer
    • Act as point of contact for customers’ technical information requests
    • Provide technical assistance to the customers’ engineering and quality operations
    • Prepare and maintain (and present as required internally and externally) technical and product related presentations
  • Represent Customer perspective on CET internal projects
  • Represent account team on internal projects
  • Assume added leadership roles on internal projects as necessary
  • Provide training as required (inside and outside the department) for assigned areas of technical specialty
  • Represent the global team in a variety of internal and external product, process, and quality related forums
  • Nurture strong relationships both internally and externally to influence appropriately in support of Corning business and the customer’s best interests
  • Coordinate with Regional Technology Director across myriad projects and issues

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25%
  • Includes domestic and international travel

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS Engineering (Ceramic, Mechanical, Materials Science or Chemical strongly preferred)
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of business related experience

Required Skills:

  • Thorough understanding (or ability to learn quickly) of Substrate and Diesel Particulate Filter products including physical attributes, specification measurement, production, and quality methods
  • Familiarity w/ QA systems (TS16949, AIAG, PPAP, etc)
  • Understanding of specifications, drawings, and their related approval processes
  • Significant experience in problem resolution and related tools
  • Excellent direct and indirect leadership capabilities (ability to manage multi-functional matrixed teams)
  • Experience working across borders and cultures to successfully accomplish objectives
  • Good supervisory / people skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Skills to communicate clearly in front of a large external audience, including explaining Corning product technology and applications

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with Corning Incorporated IT systems (ie: CAPA, LIMS, WWESS, etc)
  • DFMEA and PFMEA experience
  • Thorough understanding of design tools and services [e.g. mounting/canning, effects of coatings, CAD, CAE, testing (incl. emission testing), prototyping, etc]
  • Established network within Corning
  • General engine and emission control technology knowledge and technology trends
  • Understands Environmental Technologies’ global business structure and the local markets within which we operate
  • Customer multilevel organizational understanding
  • Knowledge of the supply chain, their technologies/processes, and the value they contribute to our products
  • Knowledge of competitors and competitive technologies
  • Data analysis and related tools (MatLab)
